HP a champion, F makes deals, MUR dips on numbers

Helmerich & Payne Inc. (NYSE: HP) shares rose 9.8% to $56.80. Volume was four million shares, overwhelming an average of 1.1 million. The Tulsa energy-drilling company reported fiscal first-quarter earnings surged 65 percent, beating analysts’ expectations.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) traded in 51 million shares Thursday, compared to a daily average of 83.7 million. Share prices gained 2.3 percent to $18.80. Ford will post its fourth-quarter results early Friday, and Wall Street is looking for the auto maker to boast its biggest annual profit since the turn of the century.

Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE: MUR) shares ditched 10.2 percent to $65.77. Volume was 9.5 million shares, proving more than six times its daily average. MUR had an earnings call scheduled for earlier this afternoon.

PLD is a pro, GE shows sparks, XNY fades

ProLogis (NYSE: PLD) shares tacked on 7.4% to $15.79, on volume of 26.3 million, or four times its normal volume. The real-estate-investment trust is in talks to merge in an all-stock transaction, with AMB Property Corp.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) traded in 54.1 million shares Thursday, compared to a daily average of 59 million. Share prices gained 1.8 percent to $20.28.

China Xiniya Fashion Limited (NYSE: XNY) shares dropped 10.3 percent to $5.81. Volume was 616,609 shares, doubling its daily average.

Lively VIVK, WLSI alive and well, REVO in reverse

Vivakor Inc (OTCBB: VIVK) was among the stars of the micro-cap set Thursday, tacking on 185.7 percent in price to a penny. The stock dealt in 98.8 million shares, in contrast with a usual daily volume of 1.8 million. VIVK announced today that it has received an Letter of Intent for $3 Million in investment capital from a private investment group. The financing is to be used for strategic acquisitions and working capital for the combined businesses.

Wellstar International Inc. (OTCBB: WLSI) dealt in 98.1 million shares Thursday, making it among the leaders for volume in micro-caps. Normal daily volume is 61.5 million. Share prices were flat, though, at one-100th of a cent.

Revolutionary Concepts Inc (OTCBB: REVO) moved down 73.3 percent Thursday to 16 cents, on volume of 37,910 shares. Normal daily average is 6,724 shares. REVO is a development stage company focused on the design and development of the Eye Talk Communicator.

CCME jumps, YHOO busy, GHL red

China MediaExpress Holdings (Nasdaq: CCME) shares leaped 16 percent to $22.69. Volume was 4.3 million shares, compared to an average of 1.3 million, on speculation the company could be subject to a massive short squeeze after short sellers have piled into the stock assuming the company is a fraud.

Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) traded in 28.1 million shares Thursday, compared to a daily average of 17.4 million. Share prices gained 4.2 percent to $16.22

Greenhill (NYSE: GHL) shares dropped 10.1 percent to $73.75. Volume was 1.3 million shares, towering over its daily average of 183,502, on weak Q4 profit.

TER takes off, NOK connected, MMI drops

Teradyne Inc. (NYSE: TER) shares soared 11.2 percent to $16.27. Volume for TER was 13.8 million shares, better by more than twice its 5.8-million average, after the maker of semiconductor-testing equipment said its fourth-quarter profit more than tripled and gave an upbeat first-quarter forecast.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) traded in 41.8 million shares Thursday, more than doubling daily average. Share prices slid, however, 1.2 percent to $10.60, as the company reported a 16-percent drop in fourth-quarter profit and offered a weak outlook.

Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (NYSE: MMI) shares dipped 11.7 percent to $30.70. Volume was 7.2 million shares, double its daily average, after the wireless-handset maker posted in-line fourth-quarter earnings but noted weaker-than-expected sales of some handsets.
