OXGN moves up, F trades widely, LUV grounded

Oxigene Inc. (Nasdaq:OXGN) shares advanced 6.5% to $1.82, on volume of 165,014, nosing out its all-day average of 134,773, after it announced the presentation of positive preclinical data supporting development of its novel, non-peptidic cathepsin L inhibitors as anticancer agents.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) was a volume champion early Monday afternoon, trading in 59.4 million shares, although shy of its full-day average of 90 million. Prices for F were up 3% to $15.61, on word its CEO Alan Mulally was to receive the Edison Achievement Award, at a ceremony in New York on Tuesday.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) was among the more notable stocks losing ground in Monday trading, its shares shedding 2.5% to $12.35, on 8.3 million shares – just nosing out its daily average — after the carrier said Sunday that two planes were found to have cracks like those in a plane that developed a hole in flight on Friday.

PSTR rocks, F rolls, CNIT hobbles

The company was identified Wednesday by Zacks Investment Research as having the lowest forward price-to-earnings ratio of companies in the energy exploration industry.

Golden Minerals Company (AMEX: AUMN) zoomed ahead 24.9% Wednesday to $22.98. Volume for the stock was 206,435 shares, or two-and-a-half times its normal daily volume, amid general buying of gold shares.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) traded in 52.6 million shares, compared with a daily average of 86.6 million. Share prices were up 0.2% late in the session to $14.37.

Newcastle Investment Corp. (NYSE: NCT) shares shed 9.3% to $6.05 after the real-estate investment trust said it would sell 15 million shares. Volume was two million shares, compared to a daily average of 815,000.


PPO revs, F rolls off lot, IDCC idles

Polypore International Inc (NYSE: PPO) shares climbed 16.8% to $57.85, on share volume of 746,000, already beating an all-day average of 554,000, after the battery-component manufacturer forecast better-than-expected first-quarter earnings late Wednesday.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) proved a volume leader in early trading Thursday, dealing in 36.8 million, nearly half its all-day average of 80.1 million. Prices for F fell 1.5% to $14.64.

InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) tumbled 8.2% to $48.76, on share volume of 2.2 million, more than double its daily average, after it announced that its patent holding subsidiaries have previously entered into a worldwide, non-transferable, non-exclusive, royalty-bearing patent license agreement with SII Mobile Communications Inc., a subsidiary of Seiko Holdings Corporation, headquartered in Japan.
