FARO fabulous, GE does business, GM profits

Faro Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: FARO) shares rose 17.9% to $35.19, on share volume of 396, 461, or six times its normal daily share volume, after the manufacturer of portable software measuring systems reported fourth-quarter results that exceeded estimates late Wednesday.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) was among the volume champions Thursday, dealing in 64.9 million shares, outdistancing a daily average of 59.4 million. Prices for GE forged 1.7% higher at $20.58.

General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) shares slumped 4.5% to $33.02, on share volume of 63.3 million, more than triple its normal average, after the automaker reported an annual profit of $4.7 billion in 2010, its first annual profit since 2004.

NDSN stronger, GE charged up, LL falls

Nordson Corp. (Nasdaq: NDSN) shares rose 13.1% to $109.12, on share volume of nearly 960,000, or more than four times its average, a day after the manufacturer of precision-dispensing equipment reported a rise in first-quarter profit.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) traded Wednesday in 84.1 million shares, surpassing a daily average of 59 million. Prices for GE turned downward 2.2% to $20.37, after announcing it was going to battle rival Siemens to produce a better quality electric-car charger.

Lumber Liquidators Holdings (NYSE: LL) tumbled 10.6% to $24.44 Wednesday, on share volume of more than 1.6 million, nearly five times its daily average, after missing its revenue targets for Q4.

CNA skyrockets, GE gains, PSDV wobbles

CNA Financial Corp. (NYSE: CNA) leaped 8.7 percent to $30.15, on volume of 1.1 million, compared to daily average of 197,930, after the company on Monday reported fourth-quarter results that beat Wall Street’s expectations.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) traded in 41.1 million shares Monday, making it a volume leader, but still below its average of 60 million. Prices improved 1.5 percent to $20.87, after the company revealed its China aviation partner was actively seeking U.S. deals.

pSivida Corp. (Nasdaq: PSDV) dropped 7.2 percent to $4.10 Monday. Volume for the stock was 252,593 shares, roundly beating its daily average of 143,541, just days after announcing positive results from tests on its Iluvien diabetes medication.

SSN mighty, GE active, CHKE cutting

Samson Oil & Gas Inc. (AMEX: SSN) shares soared 22 percent to $2.66, on volume of five million shares, better than four times its daily average, after filing its quarterly report.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) was busy Monday, dealing in 30 million shares, or about half its daily volume. Prices were fairly flat at $20.17, on news that the company, which agreed to $4.3 billion in energy acquisitions over the past four months, plans to boost results at the oil and gas unit by investing in research and plants.

Cherokee Inc. (Nasdaq: CHKE) shares demurred 11.5 percent to $16.06 on volume of 282,476 shares, five times its daily average, after slashing its quarterly dividend in order to invest more resources in its various brands of clothing, footwear, fashion accessories and home furnishings.

PLD is a pro, GE shows sparks, XNY fades

ProLogis (NYSE: PLD) shares tacked on 7.4% to $15.79, on volume of 26.3 million, or four times its normal volume. The real-estate-investment trust is in talks to merge in an all-stock transaction, with AMB Property Corp.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) traded in 54.1 million shares Thursday, compared to a daily average of 59 million. Share prices gained 1.8 percent to $20.28.

China Xiniya Fashion Limited (NYSE: XNY) shares dropped 10.3 percent to $5.81. Volume was 616,609 shares, doubling its daily average.
