GEOI garners, MSFT mighty, ACXM misfires

GeoResources Inc. (Nasdaq: GEOI) shares gained 6.7% to $30.65. Volume was 539,190 shares, nosing out its daily average of 470,379, after Wells Fargo Securities initiated coverage of the exploration company with an outperform rating.

Microsoft Inc. (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded in 29.9 million shares, or about half of its daily average, sending its share prices to $25.60 or 0.4% higher than Tuesday’s close.

Acxiom Corp. (Nasdaq: ACXM) shares declined 22.7% to $13.49, on volume of 9.5 million shares, or 20 times its daily average, after the data-services provider said its CEO had resigned, effective two days ago, and that its CFO plans to step down.

MSHL moves, MSFT busy, MAJC miserable

Marshall Edwards, Inc.(Nasdaq : MSHL) shares boosted 13.3% to $1.70, on volume of 45,250 shares, shy of its all-day average of 57,758, after it announced today the publication of results from a Phase II clinical trial of intravenous Phenoxodiol in combination with cisplatin in women with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer.

Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) dealt in 26.2 million shares, making it one of the leaders, but still short of its average of 58.7 million. Shares for the computer behemoth advanced 2.1% to $25.33, amid strength in the tech industry.

Majestic Capital Inc. (Nasdaq: MAJC) lost its parachute and dropped 72.7% in price Monday to $1.18, on volume of 1.3 million shares, towering over a daily average of around 5,300, as the company mulls bankruptcy following a termination of a merger agreement with Bayside Capital Partners.

Crescent Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: CRFN) rocketed 93.6% in price to $4.20, on share volume of 391,000, dwarfing an all-day average of 11,259, after announcing that Piedmont Community Bank Holdings was about to buy CRFN.

Microsoft Inc. (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded Thursday in 31.3 million shares, closing in on a daily average of 57.5 million. MSFT shares were flat at $26.61, after announcing a battle with Google to acquire more public school contracts in the U.S.

VirtualScopics Inc. (Nasdaq: VSCP) subtracted 17.3% to $2.15 Thursday, on share volume of 693,000, triple its daily average, after reporting full-year revenues were up 29% from last year.

WTW big gains, MSFT heavy volume, THLD takes profits

Weight Watchers International Inc. (NYSE: WTW) shares surged 41% to $63.32. Share volume was 7.5 million shares, dwarfing its daily average of 303,000, after fourth-quarter earnings more than doubled.

Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) dealt in 37.5 million shares Thursday, catching up on its daily average of 57.2 million, MSFT prices improved 0.8% to $27.23.

Threshold Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: THLD) gave back 14.9% in price Thursday to $2.34. Volume was 3.9 million shares, nearly 10 times its daily average, after agreeing with the FDA on a Special Protocol Assessment for a Phase 3 randomized trial of TH-302 in patients with soft tissue sarcoma.

Diebold Inc. (NYSE: DBD) shares added 6.4% to $34.91, on volume of 1.2 million shares, or more than triple its daily average, after the ATM manufacturer reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results.

Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC) traded in 62 million shares Monday, compared to a daily average of 189 million. Share prices inched up 0.5% to $14.84.

Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) shares declined 5.4% to $8.85, on volume of 65.1 million shares, towering over a daily average of 24.2 after the Finnish phone maker announced an alliance with software giant Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT), whose stock fell 0.4% to $27.13.
