MCP marvelous, ORCL popular, DGW under fire

Molycorp. Inc. (NYSE: MCP) shares advanced 12.3% to $66.54, on volume of 10.6 million, compared to 6.1 million, after the producer of rare-earth metals bought a controlling stake in Estonia-based AS Silmet.

Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL) traded in 23.7 million shares Monday, a titch short of its daily average of 26.9 million. Prices for ORCL nipped up 0.3% to $34.12.

Duoyuan Global Water Inc. (NYSE: DGW) descended 27% in price to $4.01. Volume for the stock was eight million shares, towering over its daily average of 416,379, after a research firm with a short position in the stock accused the Chinese company of committing fraud.

IBCP higher, BAC busy, MCP downward

Independent Bank Corp. (Nasdaq: IBCP) shot 42 percent in price Thursday to $2.30. Volume of 859,892 shares trounced its daily average of 140,452. IBCP is the holding company of Independent Bank, a Michigan-based community bank.

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) was again among the volume leaders, trading in 156,548,729 shares, catching up on a full-day average of 218,378,000. Prices for the stock lost one percent to $14.36.

Molycorp Inc. (NYSE: MCP) fell 11% to $54.00 Thursday, on volume of 9,154,013 shares, better than double its daily average. Colorado-based MCP is the only rare earth oxide, or REO, producer in the Western Hemisphere.

MCP, BAC rally, ZLC fades

Molycorp Inc. (NYSE: MCP) gained 10.98 percent in price Monday to $55.38. Volume of 2,794,623 shares trailed only slightly its all-day average of 3,721,040. Colorado-based Molycorp, Inc. is the only rare earth oxide, or REO, producer in the Western Hemisphere and currently produces approximately 3,000 metric tons of commercial rare earth materials per year.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) traded in 93,476,332 shares catching up on its daily average of 212,722,000. Prices for the stock gained 4.87 percent to $13.99, following its announcement that it has agreed to buy back the loans sold by Countrywide Financial Corp., which it acquired during the financial crisis.

Zale Corp. (NYSE: ZLC) went south Monday, losing 6.10 percent in price to $4.00, on volume of 820,376 shares, pulling ahead of its full-day average of 794,515. ZLC is a leading specialty retailer of diamonds and other jewelry products in North America, operating approximately 1,900 retail locations throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, as well as online.

MCP jumps, GE busy, JTX stumbles

Molycorp. Inc. (NYSE: MCP) progressed 12.28 percent in price Monday afternoon to $35.12. Volume was 4,273,650 shares, once-and-a-half its normal daily average. Molycorp, Inc., the Western Hemisphere’s only producer of rare earths, announced that it has secured the last of several environmental permits necessary to begin construction of its new, state-of-the-art rare earth manufacturing facility at Mountain Pass, California.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) did a lot of business Monday, trading in 38,111,289 shares, zeroing in on its normal daily average of 58,764,900 shares. Prices for GE were flat at $17.65. GE today announced its intention to make an offer for 100% of Wellstream Holdings PLC, a leading engineer and manufacturer of high-quality flexible pipeline products for oil and gas transportation in the subsea production industry.

Jackson Hewitt Tax Services (NYSE: JTX) lost 11.56 percent in price to $1.30 just past noon ET on Monday. Volume was 2,000,705 shares, nearly triple its full-day average. Based in Parsippany, N.J., JTX. is an industry-leading provider of full service individual federal and state income tax preparation.

MCP marches, PFE trades widely, MCOX falls

Molycorp. Inc (NYSE: MCP) was a winner Monday, muscling up 18.06 percent in price to $32.82. Volume of 7,226,528 shares was near triple MCP’s normal full-day average volume. Colorado-based Molycorp, Inc. is the only rare earth oxide (REO) producer in the Western hemisphere and currently produces approximately 3,000 tons of commercial rare earth materials per year.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) traded in 45,357,434shares, making it a leader in volume, edging its daily average of 42,923,900. Shares in PFE inched up 0.42 percent to close Monday at $16.83. PFE announced today that a significantly higher proportion of patients with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia who were treated with bosutinib (39% ) experienced a major molecular response (MMR), a secondary endpoint, compared with patients treated with imatinib (26% ) in the intent-to-treat population

Mecox Lane Ltd. (NasdaqGM: MCOX) faded in price 11.54 percent Monday afternoon to wind up at $6.90, on volume of 1,491,840 shares, slightly above its daily volume average. MCOX operates China’s leading online platform for apparel and accessories as measured by revenues in 2009.
