NPS goes flying, F trades, ANR plummets

NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: NPSP) shares climbed 28.9 percent to $9.91, on volume of 4.1 million shares, or more than eight times its daily average, after it said a study yielded positive results on its drug candidate for a rare bowel condition.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) was a volume leader Monday, trading in 61.3 million shares, rapidly catching up on a daily volume of 87.7 million. Prices, however, dipped one percent to $16.10, after Credit Suisse trimmed its price target by following the company’s 4Q10 earnings miss.

Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: ANR) shares were off 7.3% to $53.70 on news over the weekend that it will acquire coal producer Massey Energy Co. (NYSE: MEE). Volume for ANR was 18.2 million shares, more than six times normal.

DEPO finds wings, C mushrooms, CHMP anything but champ

Depomed Inc. (Nasdaq: DEPO) shares gained 30 percent to $8.11, on volume of 5.5 million shares, more than five times what it would trade during an average day, after the drug developer said late Friday that regulators approved its marketing of its treatment for shingles.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) held its usual place atop the volume ladder Monday, trading in 95.2 million shares. Its daily volume averages around 551 million. Share prices were up 1.4 percent at $4.76, after a portfolio manager for the Artio Global Equity Fund said the run in C shares is far from over.

Champion Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: CHMP) lost a bit of its grip early Monday, tumbling 7.8 percent to $1.78, on volume of 30,111 or nearly twice its full-day average, only days after reporting better results for 2010’s full year and last quarter. The West Virginia-based company announced net income of $0.5 million or $0.05 per share on a basic and diluted basis for the year ended October 31, 2010 compared to a net loss of $(27.5) million or $(2.76) per share on a basic and diluted basis for the year ended October 31, 2009.

Lively VIVK, WLSI alive and well, REVO in reverse

Vivakor Inc (OTCBB: VIVK) was among the stars of the micro-cap set Thursday, tacking on 185.7 percent in price to a penny. The stock dealt in 98.8 million shares, in contrast with a usual daily volume of 1.8 million. VIVK announced today that it has received an Letter of Intent for $3 Million in investment capital from a private investment group. The financing is to be used for strategic acquisitions and working capital for the combined businesses.

Wellstar International Inc. (OTCBB: WLSI) dealt in 98.1 million shares Thursday, making it among the leaders for volume in micro-caps. Normal daily volume is 61.5 million. Share prices were flat, though, at one-100th of a cent.

Revolutionary Concepts Inc (OTCBB: REVO) moved down 73.3 percent Thursday to 16 cents, on volume of 37,910 shares. Normal daily average is 6,724 shares. REVO is a development stage company focused on the design and development of the Eye Talk Communicator.

BSET comfortable, INTC trades, ICGN slumps

Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: BSET) climbed 28.6 percent to $5.85. Volume was 151,374 or seven times its normal daily volume, on quarterly sales of $66.0 million as compared to $59.5 million the year before, an increase of 10.9%. The Company reported net income of $1.9 million, or $0.17 per share, as compared to net income of $2.6 million, or $0.22 per share in the prior-year quarter.

Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) traded in 28.1 million shares Thursday, building toward a daily average of 55.1 million. Share prices eked up 0.4 percent to $21.83.

Icagen Inc. (Nasdaq: ICGN) shares chucked 8 percent to $2.89 Thursday, on volume of 315,271 shares, trailing its daily average of 489,397.

ACAT prowls, MSFT big trader, MRNA sinks

Arctic Cat Inc. (Nasdaq: ACAT) shares improved 15.3 percent Thursday to $15.82. Volume was 224,068 shares, better than double its daily average, on quarterly revenues of $152 million, beating estimates of $136.8 million.

Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded in 22.7 million shares Thursday, building toward a daily average of 58.3 million. Share prices stepped down 0.6 percent to $28.61

Marina Biotech Inc. (Nasdaq: MRNA) shares let go of 9.1 percent to $1.09 Thursday, on volume of 580,004 shares, beating its daily average of 234,217, on Japanese patent news concerning one of its nucleic acid products.
