SRDX jumps, GE with bright volume, BAS bad

SurModics Inc. (NasdaqGS: SRDX) surged 14.23 percent Wednesday afternoon to $11.88. Volume of 548,798 shares quadrupled its full-day average. SRDX is provider of drug delivery and surface modification technologies to the healthcare industry.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) traded in 43,357,683 shares Wednesday afternoon, closing in on its full-day average of 59,400,000. Share prices faded 1.13 per cent, to $17.49. QGC, a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer, has signed a contract with a consortium of GE and Laing O’Rourke for the construction of a water treatment plant in southwest Queensland.

Basic Energy Services, Inc. (NYSE: BAS) fell 5.54 percent in Wednesday afternoon trading to $14.50. Volume of 402,054 shares compared to BAS’ full-day average of 447,652. BAS, of Midland, Texas, provides well site services essential to maintaining production from the oil and gas wells within its operating area.

MCP jumps, GE busy, JTX stumbles

Molycorp. Inc. (NYSE: MCP) progressed 12.28 percent in price Monday afternoon to $35.12. Volume was 4,273,650 shares, once-and-a-half its normal daily average. Molycorp, Inc., the Western Hemisphere’s only producer of rare earths, announced that it has secured the last of several environmental permits necessary to begin construction of its new, state-of-the-art rare earth manufacturing facility at Mountain Pass, California.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) did a lot of business Monday, trading in 38,111,289 shares, zeroing in on its normal daily average of 58,764,900 shares. Prices for GE were flat at $17.65. GE today announced its intention to make an offer for 100% of Wellstream Holdings PLC, a leading engineer and manufacturer of high-quality flexible pipeline products for oil and gas transportation in the subsea production industry.

Jackson Hewitt Tax Services (NYSE: JTX) lost 11.56 percent in price to $1.30 just past noon ET on Monday. Volume was 2,000,705 shares, nearly triple its full-day average. Based in Parsippany, N.J., JTX. is an industry-leading provider of full service individual federal and state income tax preparation.

MGN mighty, GE does bright business, ACMR falters

Mines Management Inc, (AMEX: MGN) strengthened 24.31 percent in price to $3.58. Volume of 704,193 shares trounced the stock’s normal full-day average volume of 118,542. Last week, the Spokane-based MGN announced it closed out the quarter with $7.4 million of unrestricted cash and certificates of deposit.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) traded in 58,589,131 shares, making it a leader in volume, edging its daily average. Shares in GE inched down 0.48 percent to close Monday at $16.70. GE today announced that it will provide gas turbine technology to Mass Global Investment Company, an independent power producer, to help meet northern Iraq’s growing demand for electricity. Under the agreement, GE will supply three Frame 9E gas turbines and generators for the 375-megawatt expansion of the Arbil Power Plant, located in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts Inc. (NasdaqGS: ACMR) faded in price 12.86 percent Monday afternoon to wind up at $1.93, on volume of 354,971 shares, seven times its daily volume average. ACMR is a specialty retailer of arts, crafts and floral merchandise for a wide range of customers.

GMAN is good, GE gains, CIS subsides

Gordmans Stores. Inc. (NasdaqGS: GMAN) improved 17.27 percent in price to $15.96 in afternoon trading Thursday. Volume of 192,316 shares easily doubled its normal full-day average volume. The Omaha-based apparel and home décor retailer Wednesday announced third-quarter net income increased 10.7% over Q3 2009 to $4.3 million.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) generated a lot of volume Thursday afternoon, trading in 41,587,505 shares, but less its full-day average of 57,943,600. GE shares inched up 1.78 percent to $16.59.

Camelot Information Systems (NYSE: CIS) lost 9.60 percent in price Thursday to $22.31, on volume of 518,555 shares, or nearly twice its full-day average. CIS is a leading domestic provider of enterprise application services and financial industry information technology services in China.

HSFT strong, GE active, MITL slumping

Hi-Soft Technology International Ltd. (NasdaqGS: HSFT) gained 16.7 percent to $32.50 mid Wednesday afternoon. Volume was 500,152 shares, three times its normal daily volume. The company is a leading China-based provider of outsourced information technology and research and development services

General Electric (NYSE: GE) Wednesday traded in 47,906,318shares, its normal share average around 57,468,400. Shares nudged up 2.84 percent to $16.28. GE Healthcare announced today a research agreement to collaborate with Janssen Pharmaceutica NV, L.L.C. (Janssen) to identify a biosignature related to Alzheimer’s disease.

Mitel Networks Corp. (NasdaqGM: MITL) in Wednesday afternoon trading, fell 11.31 percent to $5.80, on volume of 326,519 shares, far greater than its the full-day average of 57,628. The Ontario-based MITL is a leading provider of unified communications (UC) software solutions.
