FTK jumps, AAPL reacts to Jobs news, BGP tanks

Flotek Industries Inc. (NYSE: FTK) leaped 12.1 percent in price to $6.56. Volume was 1,892,503, nosing its full-day volume average of 1,451,310. The Houston-based FTK supplies drilling and production-related products to the mining and energy industries mining industries.

Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) was active Tuesday, dealing in 49,819,895 shares Thursday, better than triple its full-day average. Prices for the stock sagged 2.2 percent to $340.89, on word CEO Steve Jobs is taking medical leave of absence.

Borders Group Inc. (NYSE: BGP) fell 13.2 percent to 92 cents. Volume for the stock was 6,837,874 shares, about three and a half times its all-day average, after reports surfaced over the weekend that the company has hired bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers.

Flotek Industries Inc. (NYSE: FTK) galloped ahead 9.7 percent to $2.94. Volume was 1,511,761 shares, or triple its daily average in volume. Houston-based FTK manufactures and markets innovative specialty chemicals, downhole drilling and production equipment, and manages automated bulk material handling, loading and blending facilities.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqGS: CSCO) engaged in share volume of 79,993,770 in mid-afternoon trading Monday, climbing over its daily average of 67,017,800. CSCO stock skidded, though, by 0.62 percent in price to $20.02. The San Jose-based software giant announced Monday it will host a live Cisco TV broadcast and Q-and-A session to discuss what organizations need to consider as they transition to IPv6, a version of the Internet Protocol that is designed to succeed the current IPv4 protocol.

MakeMyTrip Limited (NasdaqGM: MMYT) got bruised in mid-afternoon trading Monday, losing 23.25 percent in price to $29.28. MYMT volume was 2,008,990 shares, or four times its daily average. The Indian travel company reported weak quarterly results and said it received a demand of service tax from regulators. For the second quarter, MakeMyTrip reported an adjusted profit of two cents a share in line with analysts view, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Excluding service costs, revenue totalled $12.9 million, below estimates of $13.7 million.

Flotek Industries, Inc. (NYSE: FTK) gained 24.42 percent in price to $2.70. Volume in FTK stock Thursday was 3,166,940 shares, or nearly nine times its average. The Houston-based FTK manufactures and markets innovative specialty chemicals, downhole drilling and production equipment, and manages automated bulk material handling, loading and blending facilities. Wednesday, it announced Q3 revenues $40.0 million, an increase from $23.8 million in the third quarter of 2009. The Company posted a Q3 net loss attributable to common shareholders of$2.4 million, an improvement over $23.9 million in the third quarter of 2009.

Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE: S) did business amounting to 54,253,794 shares Thursday, compared to its daily average of 44,550,900. S added 1.9 percent in price to $4.01 as the final bell was getting ready to sound. Sources say Sprint and Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) are arguing smart phone payments, S having initiated arbitration proceedings to resolve the dispute.

RINO International Corporation (NasdaqGS: RINO) took a price hit late Thursday, dropping 17.75 percent to $10.84. Volume in RINO was 5,808,674 shares, or nearly eight times the normal volume. The Chinese-based clean technology firm has set Monday as announcement date for its third-quarter financial results.
