GRM vaults, C busy, INVE falls

Graham Packaging Co. (NYSE: GRM) shares climbed 25.7% to $21.01, on volume of 10.6 million shares, dwarfing a daily average around 437,000, after Silgan Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: SLGN) said it would acquire its rival supplier of consumer-goods packing products in a deal worth roughly $4.1 billion, including debt. Shares of Silgan gained 12.4% to $41.38.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was a volume behemoth on Wednesday, trading in 178.1 million shares, compared to a daily average of 477.1 million, at prices of $4.49, down 1.3% from Tuesday’s close.

Identive Group Inc. (Nasdaq: INVE) took a nose dive in Wednesday, losing 30.1% to $3.98, on volume of 13.1 million shares, well above its daily average of 624,000.

TSTY tasty, YHOO steady, CIGX less than stellar

Tasty Baking Co. (Nasdaq: TSTY) shares jumped to 146% to $3.96 after Flowers Food Inc. (NYSE: FLO) said it would pay $4 a share, or $34.4 million, for the packaged-sweets manufacturer. Flowers shares grew 2% to $28.21.

Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) outdistanced its daily average of 22.6 million shares by trading Monday in 25.6 million. Prices faded, though, 1.5% to $16.52.

Star Scientific, Inc. (Nasdaq: CIGX) dropped sharply in price Monday by 16.6% to $3.36. Volume of seven million nearly doubled its daily average.

SWSH shines, CSCO pays up, OSN down

Swisher Hygiene Inc. (Nasdaq: SWSH) shares surged 6.9% to $8.64. Volume was 1.2 million shares, or nearly twice its full-day average, after acquiring Q Linen Service, Inc. a South Florida-based linen services company.

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) dealt in 34.1 million shares early Monday afternoon, pursuing an all-day average of 76.8 million. Prices dipped a mite, though, 1.1% to $17.46, after being told to pay nearly $64 million in a patent case.

Ossen Innovation Inc. (Nasdaq: OSN) descended in price 15.2% to $2.35. Volume of just over 126,000 proved twice its normal daily average

OXGN moves up, F trades widely, LUV grounded

Oxigene Inc. (Nasdaq:OXGN) shares advanced 6.5% to $1.82, on volume of 165,014, nosing out its all-day average of 134,773, after it announced the presentation of positive preclinical data supporting development of its novel, non-peptidic cathepsin L inhibitors as anticancer agents.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) was a volume champion early Monday afternoon, trading in 59.4 million shares, although shy of its full-day average of 90 million. Prices for F were up 3% to $15.61, on word its CEO Alan Mulally was to receive the Edison Achievement Award, at a ceremony in New York on Tuesday.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) was among the more notable stocks losing ground in Monday trading, its shares shedding 2.5% to $12.35, on 8.3 million shares – just nosing out its daily average — after the carrier said Sunday that two planes were found to have cracks like those in a plane that developed a hole in flight on Friday.

MSSR gets a bite, INTC softens, RVSN stumbles

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants, Inc. (Nasdaq: MSSR) shares gained 29.2% to $9.20, on volume of 515,736 shares, overwhelming an average of 78,167, after Landry Restaurant Inc.’s chief executive said he planned to launch a hostile bid for the restaurant chain.

Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) traded in 25.1 million shares before the lunch break Monday, compared to a daily average of 61.4 million. Share prices were down 1.6% to $19.42, after its estimates were reduced at Sterne, who assigned a buy rating and $28 price target.

RADVision Ltd. (Nasdaq: RVSN) shares plummeted 12% to $10.53, on volume of 212,160 shares, its daily average below 60,000. The company announced today that based on preliminary results, RVSN expects to report revenues for the first quarter of 2011 of approximately $20.5 to $21.0 million. As a result, the net loss for the first quarter of 2011 is expected to range from $0.15 to $0.19 per diluted share on a GAAP basis and from $0.10 to $0.14 per diluted share on a non-GAAP basis.
