EROC soars, ALU also spreads wings, MSB in the mud

Eagle Rock Energy Partners L.P. (Nasdaq: EROC) shares rose 14.8% to $11.74, on volume of two million shares, or nearly seven times its daily average, a day after the natural-gas firm said it would acquire CC Energy II LLC.

Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) did a brisk trade of 55.9 million shares, compared to a daily average of 37.5 million. Shares vaulted in price by 7.6% to $6.07, on announcing plans to expand its broadband network.

Mesabi Trust (NYSE: MSB) shares fell 8% to $35.55, on volume of 677,065, better than twice its daily average, a day after the owner of mining rights in parts of Minnesota said it cut its dividend.

ALU spikes, SIRI serious, OTIV off-track

Alcatel-Lucent SA (NYSE: ALU) shares added 7.7% to $5.75, on volume of 34 million shares, nosing out its average for the day, after the telecom-equipment stock was upgraded to buy from neutral by Goldman Sachs.

Sirius XM Radio Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRI) beamed out to stock traders Monday, dealing in 25.6 million shares by noon ET, compared to a full-day average of 53.7 million. Share prices subsided, though, by 0.6% to $1.71.

On Track Innovations (Nasdaq: OTIV) faded in price 12.3% to $2.21 Monday noon, on volume of nearly 489,000 shares, already outdoing its all-day average of 376,797. Monday, the company announced operating profit of $2.8 million of 2010.

ENSG enviable, ALU alluring, ONSM off

Ensign Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ENSG) shares advanced 14% to $30.35, on volume of 209,000 shares, more than double its daily average, after the operator of rehabilitative centers reported a rise in fourth-quarter earnings.

Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) was busy Thursday, trading in 51 million shares, doubling and then some its daily average. ALU prices improved 1.9% to $5.00.

Onstream Media Corporation (Nasdaq: ONSM) lost 9.6% in price Thursday to $1.23. Volume was 282,878 shares, more than double its daily average, a day after announcing an agreement with Franchise Professionals to create MarketPlace365 for the franchise industry.

IPGP in the picture, ALU not aloof, MRNA below surface

IPG Photonics Corporation (Nasdaq: IPGP) shares gained 33.6% to $46.42 Thursday, on volumes of 636,815 shares, already triple its daily average, after the Oxford, Mass. company said it expects Q4 revenue of about $100 million, ahead of its forecast of $80 million to $86 million. It expects Q4 earnings of 53 to 56 cents a share, ahead of its earlier view of 30 to 35 cents a share.

Alcatel-Lucent SA (NYSE: ALU) traded in nearly 57 million shares Thursday, trumping its daily average of 16.6 million. Prices leaped 20% to $4.28, after the telecom-equipment group said profit soared in the fourth quarter on rising demand for broadband networks across the globe.

Marina Biotech Inc. (Nasdaq: MRNA) shares declined 28.6% to 80 cents. Volumes of 5.2 million shares made mincemeat of a daily average of 375,934, a day after the Bothell, Wash. company announced that it intends to offer and sell common stock and warrants in an underwritten public offering.

CPC soars, ALU sells, ARBX trips

Chemspec International Limited (NYSE: CPC) positively sang in early afternoon trading Thursday, chugging ahead 20.89 percent to $7.64. Volume in CPC was 178,054 shares, nearly quadruple its daily volume average. The Shanghai-based contract manufacturer of highly-engineered specialty chemicals has set Friday morning to announce its third-quarter financial results.

Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) reported wide volume of 41,327,621 shortly after noon ET, nearly triple its full-day volume average. Shares took a bit of a beating, 3.18 percent, to $3.04.  The Las Vegas-based transformation partner reported Thursday that its IPTV Micro-Architecture solution designed for underserved smaller local and regional markets garnered a TelcoTV Vision Award in the “Most Innovative Middleware” category at TelcoTV 2010, the largest video conference and expo focused on the U.S. service provider market.

Arbinet Corporation (NasdaqGM: ARBX) got stung Thursday afternoon 21.02 percent in price to register at $5.45. Volume was 23,083 shares, in contrast to usual volume of 3,545. The telecommunications concern, based in Herndon, Va., reported Thursday total revenues for the third quarter 2010 were $85.2 million, a 1.4% increase from total revenues of $83.9 million for the third quarter 2009. Third-quarter 2010 gross profit was$3.5 million, down 6.8% compared with $3.8 million in the third quarter 2009
