MSTR a master, YHOO trades, RFMD slumps

Microstrategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR) shares vaulted 18.6 percent to $110.32, on volume of 395,309 shares, or better than four times its daily average. The software maker reported third-quarter revenue of $139.11 million, up 32 percent from $105.8 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Net income was $17.9 million, or $1.60 per share, compared to $20.5 million, or $1.66 per share in the year-ago period.

YAHOO Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) traded in 16.7 million shares Wednesday, very nearly catching its full-day average of 16.9 million. Share prices for YHOO fell three percent to $15.53, after the company’s first-quarter sales outlook missed analysts’ estimates, dragged down by early results from its search agreement with Microsoft Corp.

RF Micro Devices Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD) shares declined 9.3 percent to $6.95. Volume for the stock was 12.1 million, nearly double its full-day average, after the manufacturer of chips for wireless phones late Tuesday reported third-quarter sales that came in shy of forecasts.

KEYN unlocks profits, C deals, MIPS mopes

Keynote Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: KEYN) shares rallied 24.6 percent to $18.67, on volume of 330,784 shares, or better than four times its normal daily average. Late Tuesday, the maker of online-monitoring systems reported first-quarter earnings that beat consensus expectations.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) took its place among the volume leaders early Wednesday, trading in 81.3 million shares, catching up on its full-day average of 553.2 million. Share prices for C were up 0.6 percent to $4.85, on word from the Treasury Dept. that the nation is set to record a net $312.2 million from its sale of its final 465.1 million warrants to purchase common shares of C.

MIPS Technology (Nasdaq: MIPS) dipped 11.6 percent to $13.32 Wednesday. Volume for the stock was 3.5 million shares, already surpassing its daily average of 3 million. Tuesday, MIPS declared it earned $6 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with $3.3 million, or seven cents per share, a year ago.

DSCI takes off, SIRI beams up, USAT loses grip

Derma Sciences Inc. (Nasdaq: DSCI) shares mushroomed 25.63 percent to close Monday at $6.63. Volume for the stock was 308,259 shares, leaving in the dust a full-day average of 8,308. Princeton-based DSCI is a medical device and pharmaceutical company focused on advanced wound care.
