RBCN up, C clicks, ITRI swoons

Rubicon Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: RBCN) shares climbed 18.1% to $24.93. Share volumes topped four million, routing daily averages of 621,000, a day after the electronic-materials supplier projected a strong first quarter.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) dealt in 68.3 million shares Thursday, approaching a daily average of 539.1 million. Share prices crawled upward 0.1% to $4.91, after announcing some of its executives will be given stock grants.

Itron Inc. (Nasdaq: ITRI) shares fell 11.3% to $56.45, on volumes of 1.3 million shares, topping its daily average of 564,000, a day after the electric-grid provider projected guidance for 2011 beneath Wall Street’s estimates.

CLF scales, NVDA deals, NTAP taps out

Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: CLF) shares were up 8.3% to $100.59, on volume of 3.9 million shares, already racing ahead of an average of 3.2 million, a day after the mining firm hiked its 2011 North American iron-ore sales outlook.

Nvidia Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) dealt in 21.6 million shares Thursday, approaching a daily average of 24.6 million. Share prices jumped 2.9% to $24.06.

NetApp Inc. (Nasdaq: NTAP) shares were off 9.9% to $52.74. Share volumes were 10.8 million shares, already twice its daily average, a day after the data-storage company offered a fourth-quarter forecast below expectations.

ETM leaps, NOK teeters, AMKR underwhelms

Entercom Communications Corporation (NYSE: ETM) accelerated 17.5% to $12.50 Thursday, on volumes of 533,744, towering over a daily average of 138,309. Tuesday, ETM announced quarterly revenues for the quarter increased 6% to $102.1 million, while net income per share hiked 28%.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) was a volume champion Thursday, trading in 47.9 million shares, better than double its usual volume. Prices for NOK faded 7.2% to $10.89, after the company chose to make smartphones powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 software, rather than Google’s operating system.

Amkor Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: AMKR) shares were off 10% to $7.37, on 6.2 million shares, nearly four times its usual volume, after the manufacturer of semiconducting tests projected earnings under expectations.

PRCP pops, NVDA busy, NAK goes south

Perceptron Inc. (Nasdaq: PRCP) shares ascended 18.6% to $6.96, on volume of 771,790 shares, squashing a daily average of 16,880, after being upgraded by Barrington Research from market perform to outperform.

Nvidia Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) traded in 31.9 million shares Wednesday, beating out its daily average of 24 million. Prices dropped 2.4% to $23.29, after the stock gained as much as 38% during January.

Northern Dynasty Minerals Inc. (AMEX: NAK) shares plummeted 14.4% to $17.64 Wednesday. Volume of three million shares overwhelmed a full-day average of 645,000.

RL wears well, MU trades more, MD has headaches

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp, (NYSE: RL) stock rallied 9.7% to $127.00 Wednesday, on volumes of nearly 2.5 million or three times its normal volume, after the retailer delivered a $168.4-million U.S. profit — thanks to solid holiday season sales.

Micron Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) traded in 33.1 million shares Wednesday, closing in on its daily average of 35.6 million. Prices dipped 1.1% to $11.32.

MediaMind Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDMD) shares tumbled 15.1% to $13.54 Wednesday. Volume was 172,646 shares, nearly triple its full-day average, a day after reporting quarterly revenues of $25.9 million, or 15% from the prior-year quarter.
