VRX jumps, NVDA busy, REE falls

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (NYSE: VRX) grew 16 percent in price Thursday to $34.75. Volume of 13,353,461 shares nearly quadrupled normal volume. Canada-based VRX is a multinational specialty pharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of pharmaceutical products primarily in the areas of neurology, dermatology and branded generics.

NVIDIA Corp. (Nasdaq: NVDA) did lots of business late Thursday, with 68,704,486 shares traded, four times its daily average. Prices for the stock gained 11.7 percent to $18.97. NVIDIA today announced the expansion of its NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ ecosystem with the addition of new 3D-enabled PCs and monitors by Lenovo.

Rare Element Resources Ltd. (AMEX: REE) fell 13.7 percent in Thursday trading to $13.85. Volume for the stock was 9,941,563 shares, nearly doubling its daily average. REE announced final 2010 assay results from seven additional rotary (reverse circulation) holes drilled on the Sundance Gold Project, Wyoming.

ERFW wired, ESYR active, CYIO flounders

ERF Wireless Inc. (OTCBB: ERFW) rose 108.7 percent in price to 2.4 cents Thursday. Volume for the stock was 5.75 million, way over its normal daily average of 1.84 million. The Texas-based ERFW is a leading provider of enterprise-class wireless broadband products and services.

EcoSystem Corp. (OTCBB: ESYR) dealt in 70.6 million shares Thursday, compared to a daily average of 29.2 million. Prices were flat, however, at one-100th of a cent. ESYR is innovating industrial-scale applications of bioreactor technology that are designed to resolve compelling ecological challenges while producing valuable products.

CYIOS Corp. (OTCBB: CYIO) saw its price take a header Thursday, falling 41.7 percent to seven-10ths of a cent. Volume for the stock was 150,000 shares, nearly double its daily average. CYIO makes CYIPRO, a business transformation tool that utilizes the first project based operating system.

LXRX jumps, INTC high volume, KOOL cools

Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: LXRX) shot 31.8 percent in price Thursday to $1.99. Volume was an astonishing 15,051,137 shares, whereas normal volume is below one million. The Texas-based biopharmaceutical concern announced data from a recently completed clinical trial and mechanistic study of a solid oral dose formulation for LX4211, a dual inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporters 1 and 2 (SGLT1 and SGLT2).

Intel Inc. (Nasdaq: INTC) traded in 69,323,510 shares, surpassing a full-day average of 54,361,400. Prices for the stock lost 1.2 percent to $20.69, as the fallout from the impending purchase of McAfee by Intel.

Thermogenesis Corp. (Nasdaq: KOOL) fell 11.6% to $3.28 Thursday, on volume of 358,525 shares, better than 3 ½ times its daily average. KOOL, a leading supplier of innovative products and services that process and store adult stem cells, said today it has filed a shelf registration statement on Form S-3 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

HAUP hops, C jumping, PSUN sets

Hauppage Digital Inc. (Nasdaq: HAUP) rushed ahead 34.2 percent in price Thurday to $3.18. Volume of 3,586,458 shares overwhelmed its daily average of 256,305. The world’s leading developer and manufacturer of TV tuner products for personal computers launched its new Colossus internal PCI Express board capable of recording component video and unencrypted HDMI video at up to 1080i from sources such as the Xbox360 and digital SLR cameras.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was busy Thursday, trading in 343,135,504 shares, catching up on a full-day average of 541,733,000. Prices for the stock gained 0.3 percent to $4.99.

Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (Nasdaq: PSUN) faltered 15 percent to $4.65 on volume of 752,638 shares, catching up on its daily average of 986,812. Pacific announced that its quarter-to-date same-store sales through January 1, 2011 declined 7%. The Company’s fourth quarter and fiscal year ends on January 29, 2011.

STLY steams along, INTC has high volume, ARSD falls

Stanley Furniture Company Inc. (Nasdaq: STLY) soared 30.5 percent in price Wednesday to $4.49. Volume was 614,486 shares, trounced its normal all-day average of 43,612. STLY is a leading designer and manufacturer of wood furniture targeted at the premium price range of the residential market.

Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) was a volume leader Wednesday, trading in 49,231,123 shares, even so, INTC trailed its daily average of 54,447,500. Prices for the stock slid 0.9 percent to $20.97. INTC introduced its game-changing 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family today at a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Arabian American Development Company (Nasdaq: ARSD) dropped 7.8 percent Wednesday to $4.61, on volume of 106,085 shares, more than five times its full-day average. ARSD owns and operates a petrochemical facility located in southeast Texas just north of Beaumont which specializes in high purity petrochemical solvents and other solvent type manufacturing.
