HILL climbs, MSFT busy, CPLA schooled

Dot Hill Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: HILL) shares gained 28.6% to $2.43 Monday. Volume of 1,025,822 shares proved more than six times its usual volume, on word that the Colorado-based storage solutions company projects fourth-quarter net revenue in the range of $65.0 to $65.5 million, compared to previous guidance of $58.0 to $62.0 million. Non-GAAP gross margin is expected to be in the range of 21% to 22%, compared to previous guidance of 19% to 20%.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) did great volume Monday, trading in 31,172,497 shares, more than half its daily average of 57,160,700. Prices for MSFT demurred 1.4 percent to $28.20. Microsoft Corp. today announced that business-critical Windows 7 applications for the retail and hospitality industry will be demonstrated in its booth (No. 836) this year at the National Retail Federation’s 100th Annual Convention & Expo.

Capella Education Company (Nasdaq: CPLA) sustained a loss of 18.4 percent Monday to $54.79. Volume for the stock was 956,579 shares or nearly quadruple its daily average. CPLA provides exclusively online post-secondary education through its wholly-owned subsidiary Capella University.

QXM climbs, S steady, AVL settles back

Qiao Xing Mobile Communication Co., Ltd. (NYSE: QXM) grew 14.1 percent in price Thursday to $5.75. Volume of 1,242,177 shares proved better than five times its normal daily volume. QXM is among the leading players in the molybdenum-mining business.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S) did fair volume Thursday, trading in 54,001,396 shares, nosing out its daily average. Prices for the stock inched up 0.7 percent to $4.65, after revealing its leading role in collaboration with UL Environment in the development of a new international sustainability standard for mobile devices.

Avalon Rare Metals Inc. (AMEX: AVL) was punished 12.3 percent in Thursday trading to $6.40. Volume for the stock was 6,431,980 shares, nearly five times its daily average. AVL is a mineral exploration and development company focused on rare metals deposits in Canada.

GSL grows, CSCO trades, PEIX plummets

Global Ship Lease, Inc. (NYSE: GSL) grew 14.1 percent in price Thursday to $5.75. Volume of 1,242,177 shares proved better than five times its normal daily volume. GSL is a London-based a containership charter owner.

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) traded in 54,783,485 shares by late afternoon Thursday. While this put CSCO among the volume leaders, it was still below its daily average of 71,315,200. Prices for the stock gained 0.8 percent to $20.95. Verizon Wireless and Cisco today announced Verizon Wireless will be the first service provider to deliver a fourth-generation (4G) wireless version of Cisco Cius™, a purpose-built, mobile collaboration business tablet that will be available in Spring 2011.

Pacific Ethanol Inc. (Nasdaq: PEIX) fell 11.8 percent in Thursday trading to 91.69 cents. Volume for the stock was 6,410,502 shares, nearly triple its daily average. PEIX is leading West Coast marketer and producer of low-carbon renewable fuels.

MITD leaps, CCTR active, ASVP dives

MIT Holding Inc. (OTCBB: MITD) skyrocketed 340 percent in price to 11 cents Thursday. Volume was 469,670 shares, compared to an average of 16,877. MITD, through its three wholly owned subsidiaries, distributes wholesale pharmaceuticals, administers intravenous infusions, operates an ambulatory center where therapies are administered, and sells and rents home medical equipment.

China Crescent Enterprises Inc. (OTCBB: CCTR) traded widely Thursday, dealing in 89 million shares, compared to a daily average of 22.7 million. Share prices were 15-100ths of a cent, down 6.3 percent from Wednesday.

American TonerServ Corp. (OTCBB: ASVP) fell 48.6 percent in price Thursday to 72-100ths of a cent, on volume of 128,500 shares, compared with 43,346 shares normal average. ASVP is a leader in the highly fragmented $6-billion printer supplies and services industry.

BTC soars, MSFT deals, ANTP fazed

Community Bankers Trust Corp. (AMEX: BTC) grew 36.1 percent in price Thursday to $1.47. Volume of 253,884 shares better than tripled its normal volume. Virginia-based BTC the holding company for Essex Bank.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded in 65,285,889 shares traded, surpassing its daily average of 56,645,700. Prices for the stock gained 2.5 percent to $28.96. Thursday, MSFT unveiled the next generation of the Microsoft Surface experience featuring PixelSense technology.

Phazar Corp. (Nasdaq: ANTP) fell 17 percent in Thursday trading to $4.48. Volume for the stock was 51,639 shares, short of its daily average of 63,499, after announcing it was dropping its True Mesh Network Radio program.
