NFLX stars, QCOM a draw, HWKN loses feathers

Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) shares surged 13.6 percent to $208.00. Volume for the stock was 11.3 million shares – better than twice its daily average,  after the online DVD and streaming rental provider posted strong fourth-quarter results and gave a better-than-expected first-quarter forecast.

Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) traded in 24.8 million shares Thursday, doubling a typical full-day average of 12 million. Share prices strutted 5.8 percent to $54.84, after QCOM forecast revenue that topped estimates.

Hawkins Inc. (Nasdaq: HWKN) shares let go of  17.1 percent to $38.24 Thursday, on volume of 222,880 shares, easily beating its daily average of 41,869. Quarterly sales of HWKN $70.6 million represented an increase of 16.5% from $60.6 million in sales for the same period in the prior fiscal year.

ACAT prowls, MSFT big trader, MRNA sinks

Arctic Cat Inc. (Nasdaq: ACAT) shares improved 15.3 percent Thursday to $15.82. Volume was 224,068 shares, better than double its daily average, on quarterly revenues of $152 million, beating estimates of $136.8 million.

Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded in 22.7 million shares Thursday, building toward a daily average of 58.3 million. Share prices stepped down 0.6 percent to $28.61

Marina Biotech Inc. (Nasdaq: MRNA) shares let go of 9.1 percent to $1.09 Thursday, on volume of 580,004 shares, beating its daily average of 234,217, on Japanese patent news concerning one of its nucleic acid products.

CRUS clicks along, C active, QTM falters

Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) shares ran up 10.5 percent Thursday to $19.80. Volume was 2.5 million shares, compared with daily averages around 3.4 million, on quarterly revenues of $95.6 million, up 47% on the same quarter a year ago.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) traded in 55.5 million shares Thursday, building toward a daily average of 548 million. Share prices inched up 0.9 percent to $4.86

Quantum Corporation (Nasdaq: QTM) shares fell 19.4 percent to $2.90 Thursday, on volume of 14.3 million shares, squashing its daily average of 4.3 million, after the company reported fiscal Q3 revenue and EPS below estimates and a sharply underwhelming forecast as well.

HAFC happy, MU busy, PSTI skids

Hanmi Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: HAFC) shares leaped 42.7 percent to $1.67 Thursday, on volume of 4.8 million shares, nearly five times its full-day average, on reports of quarterly profit of $5.3 million, its first quarter of black ink in two years.

Micron Technology (Nasdaq: MU) traded in 21 million shares Thursday, making it a volume leader, rapidly catching up on its daily average of 34.2 million. Share prices edged up 5.7 percent to $10.52.

Pluristem Therapeutics (Nasdaq: PSTI) shares dumped 24.8 percent to $3.16 Thursday, on volume of 5.5 million shares, dwarfing its daily average of 486,030, on announcing a public offering of common stock, with a goal of raising $50 million.

ICGN up, MU down, XRS schooled

Icagen Inc. (Nasdaq: ICGN) shares jumped 16.8 percent to $3.06 Wednesday, on volume of 1.1 million shares, better than double its daily average. Last week, the company was upgraded MLV Capital from “hold” to “upgrade”.

Micron Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) bought and sold 26.7 million shares, just shy of its daily average of 33.9 million. Share prices inched up 0.4 percent to $10.01, on word of a downgrade from “neutral” to “negative” Tuesday by Avian.

TAL Education Group (NYSE: XRS) shares lost 6.7 percent to $12.17 Wednesday, on volume of 1.0 million shares, more than five times its daily average. The after-school tutoring services company reported a 47.7-percent increase in revenue, to $24.1 million in the quarter, as total student enrollment grew 25 percent .
