PRAN makes hay, SIRI sells, KNDI hobbled

Prana Biotechnology (NASDAQ : PRAN) vaulted 7.6% to $2.83, on volume of 2.5 million or 2 ½ times its daily average. This, after announcing that the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation will provide Prana with a mission-related investment of $700,000 over two years to conduct a clinical trial investigating the potential of PBT2 to reduce the accumulation of beta-amyloid in the brain of people with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Sirius XM Radio Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRI) beamed out 43.6 million shares Thursday, catching up on its daily average of 52.6 million. Prices subsided, though, 4.1%, to $1.64, amid word that its antitrust lawsuit has been approved for class-action status.

Kandi Technologies, Corp. (NASDAQ: KNDI) shares dipped 12.5% to $2.95. Volume for KNDI was 367,558, closing the gap with its daily average of around 380,000, after it reported 2010 revenues increased 26.8% to $42.9 million. On a non-GAAP basis, which excludes certain warrants, options and convertible notes related charges, the Company reported 2010 adjusted net income of $5.0 million, up 76% from the prior year.

PPG flies higher, MU active, ALGN ailing

PPG Industries Inc. (NYSE: PPG) shares rose 6.3% to $96.31, on volume of 3.5 million – triple its daily average — after the coatings manufacturer projected first-quarter earnings that topped Wall Street’s expectations.

Micron Technology (Nasdaq: MU) traded in 28.8 million shares, catching up on a daily average of 42.8 million shares. Prices for MU dragged 1.5% to $11.59.

Align Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN) shares fell 3.8% to $20.38, on volume of 2.3 million shares, triple its daily average, a day after the maker of a tooth-straightening product said it would pay $190 million for Cadent Holdings Inc.

CEPH, VRX could be a match, C clicks, ZZ bottoms

Cephalon Inc. (Nasdaq: CEPH) shares surged 28.3% to $75.37, on volume of 25.2 million shares, towering over an average of 1.1 million, after Canadian drug manufacturer Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX) said it made an unsolicited offer valued at about $5.7 billion in cash to acquire the U.S. drug maker. Valeant’s shares climbed 8.9% to $48.27.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was a volume leader early Wednesday, trading in 60.2 million shares, compared to a daily average of 487.3 million. C shares nipped up 0.7% to $4.48

Sealy Corp. (NYSE: ZZ) shares declined 4.3% to $2.66, on volume of 315,582 shares, closing in a daily average of 320,276, a day after the mattress maker unexpectedly reported a first-quarter loss.

NVGN mushrooms, CSCO popular, TSTY fails to rise

Novogen Limited (Nasdaq: NVGN) vaulted an incredible 145.3% in price Monday afternoon to $2.60, on volume of four million shares, trampling over an average of less than 140,000 a day.

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) dealt in 30.9 million shares by post-lunch hour Monday, compared to a daily average of 71.5 million shares. CSCO shares sold for $17.31, or just 0.1% more than they closed on Friday, as CSCO showed up on a short list of “insanely cheap tech stocks” posted by the site known as Minyanville.

Tasty Baking Company (Nasdaq: TSTY) fell without a parachute Monday afternoon, losing 14.8% in price to $1.78. Volume of just over 209,000 more than doubled its daily average, after delaying the release of its annual report.

TSON in orbit, CSCO buzzes, EBIX swoons

TranS1 Inc. (Nasdaq: TSON) shares gained 25.8% to $4.10. Volume was 8.2 million shares, up against a daily average of only 172,000, after the medical-device manufacturer said U.S. regulators had cleared its spinal implant system.

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) was a volume champion Thursday, with 51.3 million shares changing hands, still below its average of 71.5 million. Share prices for CSCO were down, however, by 1.3% to $17.36.

Ebix Inc. (Nasdaq: EBIX) suffered a price nosedive of 24.2% Thursday to $22.53, on volume of 14.1 million shares, towering over its average of 575,442. Monitoring system BUYINS.NET announced it was updating its coverage of EBIX.
