ADAT gains, SIRI tunes in, CYH under pressure

Authentidate Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: ADAT) shares shot forward 22.2% to 88 cents, on volume of nearly 532,000 shares, compared to an average of just under 120,000, after it announced that it has been selected by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) as a supplier for its Telehealth Program, already one of the largest in the world.

Sirius XM Radio Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRI) made its presence felt Monday afternoon, dealing in 24.9 million shares, compared to a daily average of 54.2 million. Share prices improved 2% to $1.80.

Community Health Services Inc. (NYSE: CYH) skidded 32.4% to $27.26 Monday, on share volume of 25.7 million, triumphing over a daily average of 1.3 million, on word the company was being sued by Tenet Healthcare.

AMMD gets bought, LVLT lively, QUIK drops quickly

American Medical Systems Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: AMMD) shares gained 32.1% to $29.50 on volumes topping 17 million shares, in contrast to a daily average of less than one million. This, after Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: ENDP) said it would buy the urological medical-devices supplier for about $2.6 billion.

Level 3 Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) shares tumbled off the shelves early Monday, trading in 120 million in all, or six times the business it would normally do in a day. Prices for the stock forged ahead 14.9% to $1.66, on word the company was set to buy Global Crossing for $2 billion.

QuickLogic Corp. (Nasdaq: QUIK) shares fell 16.8% to $4.05, on volume of 753,000 or nearly double its full-day average, after the semiconductor company late Friday lowered its first-quarter revenue outlook.

OXGN moves up, F trades widely, LUV grounded

Oxigene Inc. (Nasdaq:OXGN) shares advanced 6.5% to $1.82, on volume of 165,014, nosing out its all-day average of 134,773, after it announced the presentation of positive preclinical data supporting development of its novel, non-peptidic cathepsin L inhibitors as anticancer agents.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) was a volume champion early Monday afternoon, trading in 59.4 million shares, although shy of its full-day average of 90 million. Prices for F were up 3% to $15.61, on word its CEO Alan Mulally was to receive the Edison Achievement Award, at a ceremony in New York on Tuesday.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) was among the more notable stocks losing ground in Monday trading, its shares shedding 2.5% to $12.35, on 8.3 million shares – just nosing out its daily average — after the carrier said Sunday that two planes were found to have cracks like those in a plane that developed a hole in flight on Friday.

Viva VVUS, C active, AMIE earthward

Vivus Inc. (Nasdaq: VVUS) shares rose 11.7% to $7.05 early Monday morning, on volume of 6.4 million shares, or double its all-day average. This, after the company said its experimental weight-loss drug yielded positive results and helped cut blood pressure.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was an early volume leader Monday, dealing in 79 million, compared to a daily average of 494.6 million. Share prices slid 0.5% to $4.43,

Ambassadors International Inc. (Nasdaq: AMIE) shares tumbled 69.6% to 85 cents, on volume of 2.5 million shares, towering over a daily average around 101,000, after the parent of Windstar Cruises filed for bankruptcy protection on Friday.

MAKO climbs, INTC questionable, HRZ hurting

Mako Surgical Corp. (Nasdaq: MAKO) shares gained 11.4% to $23.89. Volume was 1.1 million shares, or nearly twice its daily average after the company said late Wednesday that it had an order for 11 surgery systems from Health Management Associations Inc. (NYSE: HMA)

Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) was a volume leader in early Thursday afternoon trading, dealing in 46.9 million shares, erasing the gap with its daily average of 59.2 million. Prices were 2.1% lower to $20.03, amid general weakness in the tech sector.

Horizon Lines Inc. (NYSE: HRZ) plummeted 25.9% in price to 94 cents, on volume of 5.4 million shares, nearly nine times its daily average, as the company contemplates bankruptcy.
