Helen of Troy Ltd. (NasdaqGS: HELE) grew 17.2 percent in price Thursday afternoon to $27.59. Volume was 785,410 shares, more than five times its daily average. The El Paso-based personal care company announced today it has entered into a definitive merger agreement to acquire the business of Kaz, Inc., for $260 million.

Cisco System Inc. (NasdaqGS: CSCO) traded in 59,059,916 shares, to make it among the volume leaders early Thursday afternoon. Share prices improved 2.12 percent to $19.76

Bona Film Group Ltd. (NasdaqGM: BONA) skidded in price 21.29 percent Thursday to $6.69, on volume of 7,715,365 shares on the day of its IPO. The largest privately owned film distributor in China, today announced that its initial public offering of 11,740,000 American depositary shares, each two ADSs representing one ordinary share of the Company, was priced at $8.50 per ADS.

BGP smashes borders, CSCO trades widely, PTN stumbles

Borders Group Inc. (NYSE: BGP) leaped 25.93 percent late Monday morning to $1.36. Volume of 4,417,506 shares proved five times its normal full-day average volume. Cisco Systems (NasdaqGS: CSCO) was among the volume leaders late Monday morning, trading in 34,577,264 shares, making headway against its full-day average, which is near 69,622,200. CSCO share prices progressed 2.46 percent to $19.54. CSCO and BMC Software today announced a strategic alliance to develop and market new solutions for large-scale multi-tenant cloud computing infrastructures.

Palatin Technologies Inc. (AMEX: PTN) slid in price 17.13 percent Monday to 87 cents, on volume of 63,151 shares, nosing out its full-day average in just the first two hours. PTN is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of peptide, peptide mimetic and small molecule agonists with a focus on melanocortin and natriuretic peptide receptor systems.

FNSR sings in Q2, CSCO trades widely, CLWR murky

Finisar Corporation (NasdaqGS: FNSR) spiked 16.24 percent in price to $22.98 in afternoon trading Thursday. Volume of 6,927,403 shares easily doubled its normal full-day average volume and then some. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based maker of optical networking equipment posted stronger-than-expected Q2 results for its fiscal second quarter thanks to growing demand. Its adjusted earnings of 44 cents per share sailed past Wall Street’s expectations of 38 cents, and its revenue of $240.9 million — a 65 percent increase from last year — also handily beat forecasts.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqGS: CSCO) did a fine business Thursday afternoon, dealing in 74,497,156 shares, surpassing its full-day average of 69,038,800. CSCO shares slid, however, 0.67 percent to $19.19.

Clearwire Corporation (NasdaqGS: CLWR) jettisoned 11.14 percent in price Thursday to $6.06, on volume of 5,948,322 shares, or more than twice its full-day average. The Kirkland, WA-based CLWR announced plans Thursday to sell more than $1.1 billion in debt after months of negotiations to stave off a looming funding gap as it spends billions on building a new wireless network.

Mecox Lane Limited (NasdaqGM: MCOX) took its lumps in Wednesday afternoon trading, falling 13.5 percent to $7.50, on volume of 1,943,456 shares edging past its normal full-day average of 1,340,500. Mecox Lane Ltd.’s third-quarter net income more than tripled, as consumers snapped up its online products. The Chinese clothing and accessories company earned $797,404 million, or breakeven, for the three months ended Sept. 30. That’s up sharply from $230,217, or breakeven, a year ago.

GSL sets sail, CSCO does great volume, AONE falls

Global Ship Lease INC. (NYSE: GSL) picked up 11.76 percent in price Monday afternoon to $5.13. Volume of 718,804 shares was more than three times its three-month average share volume. GSL is a London-based a containership charter owner.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqGS: CSCO) traded in 42,850,648 shares Monday, to be one of the leaders in volume, although shy of  its three-month average share volume of around 71.1 million. Prices for CSCO hovered around $19.39, or 0.51 percent down from Friday. The San Jose-based Cisco claims to be the worldwide leader in networking.

A123 Systems Inc. (NasdaqGM: AONE) dropped 9.76 percent Monday afternoon to $7.87. Volume of 3,658,415 shares proved nearly double its usual three-month average share volume of 2.08 million. The Watertown, Mass.-based AONE is a developer and manufacturer of advanced Nanophosphate™ lithium ion batteries and systems
