KUTV sings, LVS deals, CYDE goes south

Ku6 Media Co., Ltd.(NasdaqGM: KUTV) gained in price 26.66 percent to $7.60 in afternoon trading Thursday. Volume was 503,156 shares, more than 11 times its normal full-day average volume. Ku6 Media Co., Ltd. operates as an online video company in the People’s Republic of China.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS) had great volume Thursday afternoon, dealing in 68,612,504 shares, more than double its full-day average of 33,340,400. Shares dropped 4.32 percent, however, to $49.12. LVS’ Hong Kong- listed unit Sands China Ltd. said the Macau government rejected an application to develop the final two land parcels in its China expansion plan.

CyberDefender Corporation (NasdaqGM: CYDE) dropped 14.89 percent early afternoon Thursday to $2.80, on volume of 229,988 shares, more than six times its full-day average. The Los Angeles-based CYDE, a provider of Internet security software today announced the award of a patent on its Threat Protection Network.

HSFT strong, GE active, MITL slumping

General Electric (NYSE: GE) Wednesday traded in 47,906,318shares, its normal share average around 57,468,400. Shares nudged up 2.84 percent to $16.28. GE Healthcare announced today a research agreement to collaborate with Janssen Pharmaceutica NV, L.L.C. (Janssen) to identify a biosignature related to Alzheimer’s disease.

Mitel Networks Corp. (NasdaqGM: MITL) in Wednesday afternoon trading, fell 11.31 percent to $5.80, on volume of 326,519 shares, far greater than its the full-day average of 57,628. The Ontario-based MITL is a leading provider of unified communications (UC) software solutions.

CEU marches on, CSCO in brisk trade, MCOX drops

Mecox Lane Ltd.’s third-quarter net income more than tripled, as consumers snapped up its online products. The Chinese clothing and accessories company earned $797,404 million, or breakeven, for the three months ended Sept. 30. That’s up sharply from $230,217, or breakeven, a year ago.

LTON climbs, BAC busy, SCMR slips

Linktone Ltd. (NasdaqGM: LTON) spiked in price 29.79 percent to $1.83 Wednesday. Volume of 1,462,072 shares rolled over its normal daily volume of 22,877. The Chinese wireless interactive entertainment service provider announced Wednesday that its GAAP net income stood at $600,000 U.S. in the third quarter of this year, up from $100,000 U.S. in Q2, but down from the $700,000 U.S. in Q3 2009.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) did brisk business Wednesday, trading 119,934,419 shares, quickly closing in on its daily average volume of 198,958,000. BAC shares nipped ahead in price 0.78 percent to approach noon at $11.02. Bank of America Merrill Lynch today announced the composition and weights for the 2011 Merrill Lynch Commodity index eXtraSM. The MLCX is designed to provide a liquid benchmark for commodity market performance, tracking liquid and cost efficient investments.

Sycamore Networks Inc. (NasdaqGS; SCMR) saw its share prices fall Wednesday morning by 14.49 percent to $25.67. Share volume of 1,024,435 shares nearly quadrupled the stock’s full-day, three month average. The bandwidth solutions company reported quarterly financials Wednesday Revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2011 was $11.7 million, compared with $15.6 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2010. Net loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2011, on a generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) basis, was $6.5 million, or $0.23 per share, compared with a GAAP net loss of $10.4 million, or $0.37 per share for the first quarter of fiscal 2010.

Linktone Ltd. (LTON) – Buzz Stock of the Day

Shares of Chinese telecom services provider, Linktone Ltd. (Nasdaq: LTON) were up as much as 43 percent from Tuesday’s closing price in morning trading on Wednesday after the company announced a 43 percent increase in third quarter revenue, compared to the same period last year.

For the quarter ended September 30, 2010, Linktone reported gross revenues of $19.8 million, a 17 percent sequential increase compared with$16.9 million in the second quarter of 2010, and 43 percent year-over-year growth compared with $13.8 million in the third quarter of 2009. Gross profit for the quarter was $6.9 million, up 33 percent from $5.2 million in gross profit in the same quarter a year ago. Operating income in the quarter increased to $1.0 million, compared with a  loss of $0.1 million for the third quarter of 2009. Non-GAAP net income was $0.7 million or $0.02 per ADS, compared to $0.4 million or $0.01 per ADS in the third quarter of 2009.

“As a result of effective marketing initiatives and our efforts to differentiate our services during the highly competitive season of summer school vacation, we achieved another strong quarter, with revenue from all segments of VAS data-related services, audio-related services and sales of licensed edutainment andNon-GAAP net income was $0.7 million or $0.02 per ADS, compared to $0.4 million or $0.01 per ADS in the third quarter of 2009. entertainment products achieved sequential growth,” said Linktone’s Chief Executive Officer Hary Tanoesoedibjo in a statement. “Our healthy cash balance remains a valuable asset as we continue to assess opportunities for growth, expansion and diversification.”

For the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2010, Linktone expects gross revenues to be in the range of $20.0 million to $21.0 million including revenue from its value-added services, distribution of licensed products and other services.
