BEC gets bought, C sells, DEAR dives

Beckman Coulter Inc. (NYSE: BEC) shares gained 9.7 percent to $82.49, on volume of nearly 27 million shares, towering over its average of 1.3 million, after industrial company Danaher Corp. (NYSE: DHR) said it would buy the medical-diagnostics firm in a deal valued at about $6.8 billion. Danaher shares traveled higher 3.5 percent to $49.68.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was busy on the markets Monday, trading in 75 million shares, catching up on a daily average of 561 million. Share prices added 0.9 percent to $4.86. C announced that its Global Transaction Services has launched a new module within its TreasuryVision® portal that simplifies how companies manage internal lending relationships between their legal entities.

Dearborn Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: DEAR) lost 11 percent Monday to $1.54. Volume for the stock was 165,420 shares, leading its normal daily average of 116,091, after reporting Friday a quarterly loss of $2.4 million, still less than half its loss in the prior-year quarter.

BJ jumps, C solid, THQ trails off

BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. (NYSE: BJ) shares climbed 12.7 percent to $48.49, on volumes of 1.2 million shares, or nearly twice its full-day average after the retailer said it hired a financial adviser to help it explore its options, including a sale of the company.

Citigroup (NYSE: C) had its customary strong volume start Thursday, trading in 30 million shares, climbing toward its average of 556 million. Prices for C ducked back 0.2 percent to $4.84

THQ Inc. (Nasdaq: THQI) declined 14.8 percent to $5.46, on volumes of 738,000 catching up on a full-day average of 929,000, after the videogame publisher lowered its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings outlook.

APKT scores, C rocks, JDAS fades

Acme Packet Inc. (Nasdaq: APKT) shares were up 16.3% to $65.03, on volume of 3.8 million, better than twice its full-day average, after the maker of transmission devices for telecommunications late Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings that beat expectations and hiked its 2011 outlook.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) traded in 99.7 million shares, catching up on its daily average volume of 566 million. Prices for the stock dipped 0.7 percent to $4.87, after seizing control of music’s EMI Group.

JDA Software Group Inc (Nasdaq: JDAS) shares plunged 6 percent to $29.05, on volume of 769,205 shares, or double its daily average, after the maker of software used by retailers late Tuesday forecast 2011 revenue below Wall Street’s expectations.

DEPO finds wings, C mushrooms, CHMP anything but champ

Depomed Inc. (Nasdaq: DEPO) shares gained 30 percent to $8.11, on volume of 5.5 million shares, more than five times what it would trade during an average day, after the drug developer said late Friday that regulators approved its marketing of its treatment for shingles.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) held its usual place atop the volume ladder Monday, trading in 95.2 million shares. Its daily volume averages around 551 million. Share prices were up 1.4 percent at $4.76, after a portfolio manager for the Artio Global Equity Fund said the run in C shares is far from over.

Champion Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: CHMP) lost a bit of its grip early Monday, tumbling 7.8 percent to $1.78, on volume of 30,111 or nearly twice its full-day average, only days after reporting better results for 2010’s full year and last quarter. The West Virginia-based company announced net income of $0.5 million or $0.05 per share on a basic and diluted basis for the year ended October 31, 2010 compared to a net loss of $(27.5) million or $(2.76) per share on a basic and diluted basis for the year ended October 31, 2009.

CRUS clicks along, C active, QTM falters

Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) shares ran up 10.5 percent Thursday to $19.80. Volume was 2.5 million shares, compared with daily averages around 3.4 million, on quarterly revenues of $95.6 million, up 47% on the same quarter a year ago.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) traded in 55.5 million shares Thursday, building toward a daily average of 548 million. Share prices inched up 0.9 percent to $4.86

Quantum Corporation (Nasdaq: QTM) shares fell 19.4 percent to $2.90 Thursday, on volume of 14.3 million shares, squashing its daily average of 4.3 million, after the company reported fiscal Q3 revenue and EPS below estimates and a sharply underwhelming forecast as well.
