BGP smashes borders, CSCO trades widely, PTN stumbles

Borders Group Inc. (NYSE: BGP) leaped 25.93 percent late Monday morning to $1.36. Volume of 4,417,506 shares proved five times its normal full-day average volume. CSCO share prices progressed 2.46 percent to $19.54. CSCO and BMC Software today announced a strategic alliance to develop and market new solutions for large-scale multi-tenant cloud computing infrastructures.

Palatin Technologies Inc. (AMEX: PTN) slid in price 17.13 percent Monday to 87 cents, on volume of 63,151 shares, nosing out its full-day average in just the first two hours. PTN is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of peptide, peptide mimetic and small molecule agonists with a focus on melanocortin and natriuretic peptide receptor systems.

AMRN flies on positive tests, C sells widely, CEU staggers

Amarin Corp. PLC (NasdaqCM: AMRN) enjoyed a gain of gained 58.03 percent in price early Monday to $5.61. Volume in the first hour was a staggering 17,200,902 shares, trampling its three-month average share volume of 767,131. The Connecticut and Ireland-based pharmaceutical company today reported positive, statistically significant top-line results from the MARINE study, its first Phase 3 clinical trial of lead drug candidate AMR101.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was among Monday morning’s volume leaders, trading in 104,926,884 shares, nearly a quarter of its normal daily volume of 117,592,265 shares, with its three-month average share volume pegged at 464,971,000. The banking behemoth upped its price by 0.97 percent to $4.15. C today announced that it has won a mandate to provide third-party securities lending services for Global X Funds’ family of exchange traded funds.

China Education Alliance Inc. (NYSE: CEU) fell in price early Tuesday by 12.7 percent to $3.85. Volume was 165,878 shares, its three-month average share volume not available at press time. CEU is a leading China-based company experiencing fast-growing, offering high-quality education resources and services to students ages 6 to 18 and adults (university students and professionals) ages 18 and over.

CABB jumps, SGAMY trades widely, ABPI sinks after Chapter 11

California Business Bank (OTCBB: CABB) gained 28.89 percent in Thursday afternoon trading to $2.90. Volume was 1,100 shares, easily surpassing its 3-month daily average volume of 488.

Sega Sammy Holdings Inc Sponsored ADR (Pink Sheets: SGAMY) was among the volume leaders in micro-caps Thursday afternoon, with 5,209,257 shares changing hands, more than 15-times its average volume of 333,776. The stock gained 4.48 percent in price to $4.20.

Accentia Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (Pink Sheets: ABPI) lost 1.02 percent in price Thursday afternoon to 97 cents. Volume was 289,330 shares. ABPI announced Wednesday that the Company and its majority-owned subsidiary, Biovest International, Inc. have both successfully completed their reorganizations. Pursuant to their respective Plans of Reorganization approved by the bankruptcy court, Accentia and Biovest have now formally exited Chapter 11 as fully restructured organizations.

CHS chugs along, INTC among volume kings, TKMR thumped

Chico’s Fas, Inc. (NYSE: CHS) prospered 9.41 percent in price Wednesday to $11.02. Volume was 10,782,229 shares, more than doubling its daily average of 4,519,330. CHS, based in Fort Myers, Fla., Wednesday reported third-quarter net income of $28.8 million, or $0.16 per diluted share, for the third quarter compared to net income of $22.7 million, or $0.13 per diluted share, for last year’s third quarter.

Intel Inc. (NasdaqGS: INTC) had an active Wednesday, trading in 33,245,903 shares, though less than half of its three-month daily average of 68,021,700. The software giant’s shares lost 0.28 percent worth of steam in Wednesday trading to $21.01 just half an hour before the closing bell. INTC announced Wednesday that it has inked a letter of intent with China’s homegrown auto electronics enterprise Hangsheng to jointly set up an auto electronics laboratory,

Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NasdaqCM: TKMR) fell in price Wednesday afternoon by 17.02 percent to $5.80. Its volume of 34,300 shares was still nearly double TKMR’s three-month daily average. The Vancouver-based in RNA interference therapeutics announced Monday third-quarter financials, featuring net loss of $2.7 million ($0.26 per common share) as compared to a net loss of $2.8 million ($0.27 per common share) for Q3 2009.

ISLN spikes, QQQQ among volume leaders, ASTM ailing

Isilon Systems Inc. (NasdaqGM: ISLN) enjoyed a profitable day Monday, jumping 28.45 percent in price to close at $33.77. Volume in ISLN was 35,703,591 shares, compared to a daily average of just over one million. On Monday, EMC Corp. said it has signed a $2.25 billion deal to acquire Isilon Systems Inc. in yet another step in the consolidation of the increasingly important data-storage industry.

PowerShares QQQ (NasdaqGM: QQQQ) traded widely Monday in 56,163,936 shares. The figure was still below its three-month daily average of 73,899,700. The stock suffered in price, though, 0.37 percent to $52.31.

Aastrom Biosciences Inc. (NasdaqCM: ASTM) fell in price Monday’s trading by 15.48 percent to $3.55. Volume in ASTM was 4,168,049, or about four times its normal daily average. The Ann Arbor, Mich.-based company is a leading developer of expanded autologous cellular therapies for the treatment of severe cardiovascular diseases.
