ACAD climbs, F hiring, INUV suffers

ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ACAD) shares gained 34.8% to $1.55 Monday. Volume of 8,207,414 shares proved 12 times its usual volume of 674,665, after ACAD entered into an agreement, to fund its research into Parkinson’s disease.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) was a volume leader Monday, trading in 38,100,313 shares, nearly half its daily average of 82,773,700. Prices for F nipped up 0.9 percent to $18.43. The car maker Monday announced that it planned to hire more than 7,000 workers in the next two years.

Inuvo, Inc (Amex: INUV) got bruised 20.5 percent by noon ET Monday to $4.03. Volume for the stock was 153,338 shares, already surpassing its daily average of 131,311 shares. INUV announced today that revenue for the quarter ended December 31, 2010 would be approximately $14 million. This represents a 46% increase over the $9.6 million of revenue in the same quarter of 2009 and is slightly lower than the third quarter of 2010.

QXM climbs, S steady, AVL settles back

Qiao Xing Mobile Communication Co., Ltd. (NYSE: QXM) grew 14.1 percent in price Thursday to $5.75. Volume of 1,242,177 shares proved better than five times its normal daily volume. QXM is among the leading players in the molybdenum-mining business.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S) did fair volume Thursday, trading in 54,001,396 shares, nosing out its daily average. Prices for the stock inched up 0.7 percent to $4.65, after revealing its leading role in collaboration with UL Environment in the development of a new international sustainability standard for mobile devices.

Avalon Rare Metals Inc. (AMEX: AVL) was punished 12.3 percent in Thursday trading to $6.40. Volume for the stock was 6,431,980 shares, nearly five times its daily average. AVL is a mineral exploration and development company focused on rare metals deposits in Canada.

BTC soars, MSFT deals, ANTP fazed

Community Bankers Trust Corp. (AMEX: BTC) grew 36.1 percent in price Thursday to $1.47. Volume of 253,884 shares better than tripled its normal volume. Virginia-based BTC the holding company for Essex Bank.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded in 65,285,889 shares traded, surpassing its daily average of 56,645,700. Prices for the stock gained 2.5 percent to $28.96. Thursday, MSFT unveiled the next generation of the Microsoft Surface experience featuring PixelSense technology.

Phazar Corp. (Nasdaq: ANTP) fell 17 percent in Thursday trading to $4.48. Volume for the stock was 51,639 shares, short of its daily average of 63,499, after announcing it was dropping its True Mesh Network Radio program.

VRX jumps, NVDA busy, REE falls

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (NYSE: VRX) grew 16 percent in price Thursday to $34.75. Volume of 13,353,461 shares nearly quadrupled normal volume. Canada-based VRX is a multinational specialty pharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of pharmaceutical products primarily in the areas of neurology, dermatology and branded generics.

NVIDIA Corp. (Nasdaq: NVDA) did lots of business late Thursday, with 68,704,486 shares traded, four times its daily average. Prices for the stock gained 11.7 percent to $18.97. NVIDIA today announced the expansion of its NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ ecosystem with the addition of new 3D-enabled PCs and monitors by Lenovo.

Rare Element Resources Ltd. (AMEX: REE) fell 13.7 percent in Thursday trading to $13.85. Volume for the stock was 9,941,563 shares, nearly doubling its daily average. REE announced final 2010 assay results from seven additional rotary (reverse circulation) holes drilled on the Sundance Gold Project, Wyoming.

China Gengsheng Minerals Inc. (AMEX: CHGS) dropped 14.9 percent Wednesday to $3.72, on volume of 6,463,930 shares, 4 1/2 times its daily average. CHGS, a leading China-based high-tech industrial materials manufacturer, today announced that it has entered into definitive agreements with several institutional investors for a registered direct placement of 2,500,000 shares of common stock at a price of $4.00 per share for gross proceeds of $10 million.
