BIIB big, INTC popular, TDSC bruised

Biogen Idec Inc. (Nasdaq: BIIB) shares climbed 7% to $78.44. Volume for the stock was 4.9 million, trumping its daily average of 1.8 million, after the biotechnology company said its experimental multiple-sclerosis drug showed promising results in two late-stage studies.

Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) was a busy company Monday, trading in 31.7 million shares, still short of its daily average of 59.8 million. Share prices for the chips-maker nipped up 0.3% to $20.07, after the company said its new processor for tablets is now available, as it tries to break into the fast-growing mobile market dominated by designs based on rival ARM Holdings PLC’s architecture.

3D Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: TDSC) took a 10.5% tumble in price Monday afternoon to $50.60, on volume of 1.2 million shares, far above its daily average of 247,000.

SWSH shines, CSCO pays up, OSN down

Swisher Hygiene Inc. (Nasdaq: SWSH) shares surged 6.9% to $8.64. Volume was 1.2 million shares, or nearly twice its full-day average, after acquiring Q Linen Service, Inc. a South Florida-based linen services company.

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) dealt in 34.1 million shares early Monday afternoon, pursuing an all-day average of 76.8 million. Prices dipped a mite, though, 1.1% to $17.46, after being told to pay nearly $64 million in a patent case.

Ossen Innovation Inc. (Nasdaq: OSN) descended in price 15.2% to $2.35. Volume of just over 126,000 proved twice its normal daily average

ADAT gains, SIRI tunes in, CYH under pressure

Authentidate Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: ADAT) shares shot forward 22.2% to 88 cents, on volume of nearly 532,000 shares, compared to an average of just under 120,000, after it announced that it has been selected by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) as a supplier for its Telehealth Program, already one of the largest in the world.

Sirius XM Radio Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRI) made its presence felt Monday afternoon, dealing in 24.9 million shares, compared to a daily average of 54.2 million. Share prices improved 2% to $1.80.

Community Health Services Inc. (NYSE: CYH) skidded 32.4% to $27.26 Monday, on share volume of 25.7 million, triumphing over a daily average of 1.3 million, on word the company was being sued by Tenet Healthcare.

GLBC flies, C steady, ADES ails

Global Crossing Ltd. (Nasdaq: GLBC) shares surged 60.4% to $23.74, on volume of close to seven million shares, overwhelming a daily average around 146,000, after Internet infrastructure provider Level 3 Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) said it would acquire its smaller rival..

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) was a volume champion in early trading Monday morning on Wall Street, dealing in 94.5 million shares, compared to 478.8 million. Share prices were off 0.6% to $4.54, after announcing C was putting its European headquarters on the market for $1.6 billion.

ADA-ES Inc. (Nasdaq: ADES) swooned 38% Monday morning to $13.68, on volume of 335,700 shares, compared to regular volume of 52,729, after an arbitration panel ordered ADES to $38 million to Norit Americas for breach of contract.

AMMD gets bought, LVLT lively, QUIK drops quickly

American Medical Systems Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: AMMD) shares gained 32.1% to $29.50 on volumes topping 17 million shares, in contrast to a daily average of less than one million. This, after Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: ENDP) said it would buy the urological medical-devices supplier for about $2.6 billion.

Level 3 Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) shares tumbled off the shelves early Monday, trading in 120 million in all, or six times the business it would normally do in a day. Prices for the stock forged ahead 14.9% to $1.66, on word the company was set to buy Global Crossing for $2 billion.

QuickLogic Corp. (Nasdaq: QUIK) shares fell 16.8% to $4.05, on volume of 753,000 or nearly double its full-day average, after the semiconductor company late Friday lowered its first-quarter revenue outlook.
