BKD grows, S rings it up, ALAN slumps

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) shares gained 9% to $25.55, on share volume of 1.8 million, or twice its average, a day after the operator of assisted-living housing reported a narrower fourth-quarter loss. Earlier Thursday, the company announced an agreement for an expanded corporate line of credit.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (Nasdaq: S) traded Thursday in 56.8 million shares, surpassing its daily average of 52.3 million. Prices added 1.8% to $4.28, after taking the wraps off its HTC Arrive smart phone.

Alanco Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: ALAN) subsided 13.3% to $1.04 Thursday, on share volume of 113,000, more than six times its daily average.

PSGY makes grade, GERS active, BKPG dogs it

Princeton Security Technology Inc. (OTCBB: PSGY) was among the truly sparkling micro-caps Thursday, adding 66.7% in price to 20 cents. Volume was 106,000 shares, compared to a daily average of 15,831, a day after receiving new orders for its radiation detection technology.

Greenshift Corp. (OTCBB: GERS) traded in 43.4 million shares, making it a volume leader among small caps, though well below its usual average around 144.7 million. Share prices were flat at two-100ths of a cent.

Bark Group Inc. (OTCBB: BKPG) dipped 36.5% in price Thursday to 1.2 cents. Share volume was 289,600, in contrast to a daily average up around 831,000. BKPG is an innovative integrated U.S. advertising network of marketing companies with a multinational client base.

KAI crows, MU moves along, AXT declines

Kadant Inc. (NYSE: KAI) gained 13.6% Thursday to $23.64, on share volume of 612,000, or 15 times its all-day average, after announcing Q4 revenues of $73.3 million, an increase of $16.5 million, or 29% over last year.

Micron Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) traded Thursday in 24.5 million shares, closing in on a daily average of 36.9 million. MU shares picked up 1% to $10.65.

AXT Inc. (Nasdaq: AXTI) demurred 17.5% to $6.90 Thursday, on share volume of 3.1 million, more than four times its daily average, after reporting full-year earnings of $18.7 million on revenue of $95.5 million. In 2009, it lost $1.9 million on revenue of $55.4 million.

CRFN warms to buyout, MSFT high volume, VSCP goes backwards

Crescent Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: CRFN) rocketed 93.6% in price to $4.20, on share volume of 391,000, dwarfing an all-day average of 11,259, after announcing that Piedmont Community Bank Holdings was about to buy CRFN.

Microsoft Inc. (Nasdaq: MSFT) traded Thursday in 31.3 million shares, closing in on a daily average of 57.5 million. MSFT shares were flat at $26.61, after announcing a battle with Google to acquire more public school contracts in the U.S.

VirtualScopics Inc. (Nasdaq: VSCP) subtracted 17.3% to $2.15 Thursday, on share volume of 693,000, triple its daily average, after reporting full-year revenues were up 29% from last year.

BW higher, INTC bolts, STS stutters

Brush Engineered Materials (NYSE: BW) jumped 22.6% in price to $42.26, on share volume of 351,000, better than triple its all-day average. This, after BW declared quarterly EPS of 61 cents, trouncing estimates of 46 cents, and revenues of $356 million, compared to estimates $305.13 million.

Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) did pretty fair volume Thursday, trading in 27.7 million, nearly half its daily average. INTC shares were flat at to $21.16 after announcing Thunderbolt Technology, a new high-speed PC connection technology that runs at 10Gbps.

Supreme Industries Inc. (AMEX: STS) stumbled in price to 22.2% to $2.45 Thursday, on share volume of 104,000, compared to a measly 8,129 for a daily average, after reporting net sales for the full year, of $220.9 million, up 19% from $186.1 million in 2009.
