ALJ leaps, PFE trades widely, SMSI sinks

Alon USA Energy Inc. (NYSE: ALJ) was a gainer on Thursday, picking up 13.3 percent to $7.34. Volume was 524,908, or six times its full-day volume average. Dallas-based ALJ is a controversial refiner and pipeline operator.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) traded in 39,682,127 shares Thursday, making it a volume leader, but still below its daily average of 45,751,100. Prices for PFE fell one percent to $18.19. PFE revealed Thursday and the company and its bankrupt Quigley unit are close to a deal with a group of alleged asbestos victims that would resolve Pfizer’s liability for billions of dollars in potential claims.

Smith Micro Software Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI) dove 14.5 percent in price to $13.42.Volume for the stock was 2,883,996 shares or nearly six times its full-day average. The company reaffirmed earlier guidance with sales and earnings midpoints well above the average analyst estimate.

ESLP sunny, FLTT busy, SSLR cloudy

Euro Solar Parks Inc. (OTCBB: ESLP) ascended 208.7 percent in price to 71 cents. Volume for the stock was 26,500 shares, compared to a daily average of 4,977. ESLP develops, builds and operates commercial solar power plants with a focus on the European solar energy market.

Flint Telecom Group Inc. (OTCBB: FLTT) dealt in 65.6 million shares Thursday, compared to a daily average of 26.8 million. Prices for the stock plunged, though, by 18.2 percent to nine-100ths of a cent. FLTT is a fast growing Telecoms Technology Organization with a portfolio of companies that deliver next-generation IP communications and prepaid financial Products and Services.

Sunrise Solar Corp. (OTCBB: SSLR) slid in price 90 percent to one-10th of a cent. Volume for the stock was 21,850 shares, nosing out its daily average to 17,039. SSLR intends to commercialize and distribute cutting edge alternative solar energy technologies and equipment.

CT capital, AA does great business, MSCI muzzled

Capital Trust Inc. (NYSE: CT) shares climbed 22.8 percent to $2.32 Thursday afternoon. Volume was 657,552, or nearly six times its full-day volume average. CT is a finance and investment management company focused on the commercial real estate industry.

Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) traded in 57,942,316 shares Thursday, more than doubling its daily average. Prices for AA were down 3.4 percent to $15.69, just days after reporting improved revenue and income figures for fiscal 2010.

MSCI Inc. Class A (NYSE: MSCI) plummeted 9.1 percent Thursday to $36.11. Volume for the stock was 1,538,410 shares or three times its full-day average after the investment analysis and market index company said margin growth may slow down in next few quarters as it increases its capital spending.

PCE pops, PAL steady, QBC reverses

Pacific Office Properties Trust. (AMEX: PCE) shares ballooned 75.5 percent to $3.58 early Thursday afternoon. Volume was 674,108, or more than 33 times its full-day volume average, after saying it will no longer attempt an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange.

North American Palladium Inc. (AMEX: PAL) traded in 5,700,732 shares Thursday, nearly doubling its daily average of 3,334,090. Prices for were up 2.6 percent to $7.38. Toronto-based PAL is a precious metals company focused on growing its production of palladium and gold in mining-friendly jurisdictions.

Cubic Energy Inc. (AMEX: QBC) fell 6.9 percent Thursday to $1.08. Volume for the stock was 192,919 shares besting its full-day average of 141,700. QBC is an independent company engaged in the development and production of, and exploration for, crude oil and natural gas.

SSN rises, F gets a jolt, LOOK down

Samson Oil and Gas Ltd. (AMEX: SSN) shares gained 22.6 percent to $1.90 early Thursday afternoon. Volume was 3,082,016, or more than five times its full-day volume average. The Australia-based SSN’s principal business is the exploration and development of oil and natural gas properties in the United States

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) traded in 65,058,288 shares Thursday, catching up to its daily average of 82,882,200. Prices for the car maker were up 0.6 percent to $18.82. F announced Thursday its Focus Electric will offer an innovative home charging station for customers that delivers several benefits for a convenient and simple experience. The unit was jointly developed with Leviton, a leading North American producer of electrical devices.

LooKSmart Ltd. (Nasdaq: LOOK) fell 13.7 percent Thursday to $1.70. Volume for the stock at 612,508 shares proved 11  times its full-day average. Thursday, LOOK projected fourth-quarter revenues in the range of $9.7 million to $9.9 million, Net income for the fourth quarter of 2010 is expected to be in the range of $0.0 million to $0.1 million.
