CTHR shines, INTC has lots of chips, LPHI in legal trouble

Charles & Colvard Ltd. (Nasdaq: CTHR) grew in price 17.7 percent Monday to $3.72 volume of 187,263 shares, four times its daily average. CHTR is the world’s only maker of the diamond-like jewel moissanite.

Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) traded in 31.2 million shares, still trailing a daily average of 55 million. Share prices were flat at $21.67, despite lots of activity in the tech field.

Life Partners Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: LPHI) faltered 10.9 percent Monday to $8.39. Volume was 273,914shares, outdistancing a daily average of 191,736, only days after lawsuits were filed against LPHI over allegedly inaccurate claims.

REFR jumps, F steps on gas, TRGL trails

Research Frontiers Inc. (Nasdaq: REFR) vaulted 35.62 per cent to $9.90, on volume of 613,204 or nearly 10 times its daily average. REFR has an investor conference call planned for Wednesday.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) traded in 72.7 million shares, pursuing a daily average of 95 million. Share prices added 3.4 percent to $16.26. F says it is seeing “strong demand” for the new Focus in Europe and is expecting a “bumper sales month” in March when the vehicle is available across the region.

Toreador Resources Corporation (Nasdaq: TRGL) staggered 12.4 percent Monday to $13.16. Volume was 894,779 shares, better than twice its daily average.

EL up, PFE active, FBN floored

Estee Lauder Cos. (NYSE: EL) shares gained 14.8 percent to $92.49, on volume of 4.9 million – or quadruple its daily average, after the cosmetics maker raised its fiscal-year forecast.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) was busy on the markets Thursday, trading in 52.5 million shares, beating out its daily average of 47 million. Share prices marched again 1.4 percent to $19.22, although biotechs in general were flat to downward Thursday.

Furniture Brands International (NYSE: FBN) lost 17.7 percent of its price strength Thursday to $3.78. Volume for the stock was 4.9 million shares, or more than 12 times its normal daily average, after reporting Thursday a net Q4 loss of $44.7 million, still an improvement from the quarterly loss of $65 million it suffered a year earlier.

CELL rings, INTC trades widely, ICGN takes breather

Brightpoint Inc. (Nasdaq: CELL) shares moved north 32 percent Thursday to $12.57, on volumes of nearly three million, six times its full-day average, a day after presenting Q4 earnings that beat Street estimates.

Intel Inc. (Nasdaq: INTC) traded in 27.3 million shares Thursday, trailing its all-day average of 55.5 million. Shares for the chipmaker nosed ahead 0.6 percent to $21.50.

Icagen Inc. (Nasdaq: ICGN) got thumped 12.6 percent in price to $3.25 Thursday. Volume was 809,218, besting its daily average of 563,036, after the FDA lifted its hold on ICGN’s epilepsy drug.

AN hits gas pedal, NWSA busy, CME falls

AutoNation Inc. (NYSE: AN) shares rose 12 percent to $31.65, on volumes of 3.7 million, four times its daily average, after the car retailer reported fourth-quarter results that beat Wall Street’s estimates.

News Corporation (Nasdaq: NWSA) dealt in 23.5 million shares, compared to its daily average of 14.4 million. Share prices jumped 5.3 percent to $16.84, after the media company announced better than expected Q2 earnings

CME Group Inc. (Nasdaq: CME) shares were off 4.9 percent to $299.78, on volumes of 1.2 million, compared to averages of 412,000 after the operator of the world’s largest futures exchange reported quarterly profit short of expectations.
