DV spreads wings, GE turns light on, SE mulls bids

DeVry Inc. (NYSE: DV) shares hurtled skyward 13.3 percent to $53.66 Wednesday, on volume of nearly three million shares, or about triple its daily average, on quarterly profits jumped 22 percent over the same quarter last year and its revenue rose 17 percent.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) traded in 52.1 million shares Wednesday, just shy of its daily average of 58.8 million. Share prices crept up 0.2 percent to $20.02, as President Obama’s State of the Union address made reference to bolstering infrastructure, boosting companies like GE.

Sara Lee Corporation (NYSE: SLE) shares lost 6.3 percent to $18.40 Wednesday, on volume of 27.2 million shares, nearly four times its daily average. The Downers Grove, Illinois-based packaged food company appears to be weighing bids from two suitors, bids that could be made public as early as Friday.

GXDX runs up, GE bright, APP threadbare

Genoptix Inc. (Nasdaq: GXDX) shares rose 25.8% to $24.85 after Swiss drug maker Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS) said it would buy the cancer-diagnostic specialist for $470 million. Volume for the stock was 18.75 million shares, compared to a daily average of 461,835.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) dealt in 58.5 million shares Monday, surpassing its full-day average of 57 million. Share prices moved higher 1.4 percent to $20.02.

American Apparel Inc. (AMEX: APP) dropped 13.2 percent to $1.12 Monday. Volume for the stock was 794,910 shares, beating out its daily average of 578,569. The apparel maker is in talks to bring in an external restructuring adviser to try to revive growth and appease creditors.

RPRX jumps, GE busy, WSTL steps back

Repros Therapeutics Inc. (Nasdaq: RPRX) moved 13.8 percent higher Thursday to $3.13. Volume of 851,490 shares was catching up on its full-day average of 864,758. RPRX’s Androxal drug, meant to treat men with low testosterone, is in clinical trials this month.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) was a volume leader Thursday, dealing in 39,598,546 shares, still shy of its full-day average of 54,691,800. Share prices regained 1.2 percent to $18.55.

Westell Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: WSTL) shares stumbled 15 percent to $3.00. Volume was 1,212,492 shares, triple its daily average, on word that its quarterly income edged up 7 percent.

BITA rockets up, GE buzzing, ANTP stumbles

Bitauto Holdings Limited America (NYSE: BITA) increased in price 12 percent to $10.48 midday Wednesday. Volume of 381,406 shares trailed its full-day volume average of 395,615, after Oppenheimer initiated coverage on the stock at Outperform.

General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) traded Wednesday in 33,684,575 shares, catching up on its full-day average of 54,463,100. Prices for the stock slid 1.6 percent to $18.31, after stating that its deals with China have totaled $2 billion.

Phazar Corporation (Nasdaq: ANTP) toppled 17.3 percent Wednesday to $3.79. Volume for the stock was 158,483 shares, four times its normal daily volume. Wednesday, Phazar reported quarterly Earnings Per Share of $0.01 vs. $0.00 in 2Q10; revenues rose 8% year-over-year to $2.3 million.

TRCI soars, GE active, LLEN loses

Technology Research Corp. (Nasdaq: TRCI) saw its shares gallop ahead 29.7 percent in price to $5.06. Volume was 631,246, overwhelmed its full-day volume average of 11, 160. TRCI announced Tuesday it had received an unsolicited indication of interest from Coleman Cable in acquiring it at a price of $5.50 per share in cash.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) traded widely Tuesday, dealing in 39,864,600 shares Thursday, catching up on a full-day average of 56,587,000. Prices for the stock cooled 0.9 percent to $18.65, on word the FCC has greenlighted the bid by cable magnate Comcast to take over NBC Universal.

L & L Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: LLEN) fell 11.1 percent to $8.35. Volume for the stock was 2,217,606 shares, just better than double its all-day average. LLEN promoted David Lin to acting Chief Financial Officer, effective today. Lin will replace Rosemary Wang who is stepping down due to family reasons, but will remain on as a consultant.
