BASI boosts, S steady, DBLE loses fuel

Bioanalystical Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: BASI) grew in price 25 per cent Monday to $2.60, on volume of 111,964 shares, twice and a half its daily average, after reporting quarterly profit of $310,000, compared to a loss of $1.5 million in the prior-year quarter.

Sprint Nextel Corporation (Nasdaq: S) traded in 41.6 million shares, catching up on a daily average of 49.8 million. Share prices edged up 0.3 percent to $4.42, on word S was getting set to offer a dual-screen Android smartphone.

Double Eagle Petroleum Company (Nasdaq: DBLE) went south 13.7 percent Monday to $9.10. Volume was 1.2 million shares, towering over a daily average of 81,466. DBLE explores for, develops, and sells natural gas and crude oil, with natural gas constituting more than 95% of its production and reserves.

WTNY rockets, SIRI beats average, BASI bumbles

Whitney Holding Corp. (Nasdaq:WTNY) raced ahead 30.45 percent in price Wednesday to $14.18. Volume of 6,284,037 shares was eight times its daily average. Whitney found itself under investigation Wednesday for possible breaches of fiduciary duty and other violations of state law in connection with the sale of the Company to Hancock Holding Company

Sirius XM Radio Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRI) traded in 72,955,801shares Wednesday, besting its daily average of 56,868,900. Share prices gained 8.14 percent to $1.60. Technology firm BUYINS.NET ran a reverse engineering trading scan on SIRIUS, and predicted SIRI would go 39.7% higher by January 18.

Bioanalytical Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: BASI) fell 21.71 percent in price Wednesday to $2.02, on volume of 177,659 shares, 10 times its full-day average. BASI is a leader in drug development services and research instrumentation.

Bioanalytical Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: BASI) celebrated a hike of 23.97 percent in price Monday to $3.31. Volume of 193,397 shares overwhelmed its full-day average of 8,971. Indiana-based BASi is a pharmaceutical development services company providing contract research services and instruments and supplies to the world’s leading drug development companies and medical research organizations.

Marshall & Ilsley Corp. (NYSE: MI) traded in 33,286,748 shares Monday, more than doubling its daily average of 14,042,100. Share prices for MI skidded 3.65 percent, however, to $6.61. MI’s board of directors is under investigation concerning possible breaches of fiduciary duty and other violations of law related to the Company’s efforts to sell Marshall & Ilsley to BMO Financial Group in a transaction with a value of approximately $4.1 billion.

BankAtlantic Bancorp, Inc. (NYSE: BBX) found itself downward in price, 10.76 percent Monday to $1.41, on volume of 2,579,650 shares, or more than five times its full-day average. BBX is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in Florida.
